unusual 14 karat fountain pen
(Preview)
I have recently acquired a somewhat unusual fountain pen. I hope I will be able to post a couple of photos. The pen is marked 14 kt on the jump ring. The barrel and cap are comprised of yellow gold and what appears to be black plastic. It is 33/8 in long not counting the jump ring in the closed position. The ju...

Vintage Speedry Brushpen Value?
(Preview)
Hello All, We have a Vintage Speedry Brushpen set out of grandma's estate, trying to get more history on it and possibly a value, includes the pen, eyedropper, box and mostly dried up bottle of ink, the nibs (49) pictured do not fit this pen and they appear not to have been used, although I didn't go thru a...

Brause fountain pens?
(Preview)
I just received this Brause 3010 pen from an eBay seller. It has a very smooth nib, between a medium and a broad as best I can tell; I'm still soaking old ink out of the feed. It came with a dried-out short international cartridge in it, but looking down inside the barrel I see a shoulder that I'd expect the e...

Are there any vintage pens that accept new cartridges?
(Preview)
If so, what are they? I recently learned about the Arnold Pen company in nearby Petersburg, VA, which got me thinking about trying to acquire some vintage pens. I'm pretty lazy and cheap, so I don't think I'd be up for fixing or replacing any kind of filling system. Hence, my question.

Where do I start with vintage pens?
(Preview)
Is there a guide on the net to each type? Repair guides on line? Which types are easiest to convert to say an eyedropper or to accept some kind of converter?

can easily be converted to do so? I know that the Shaeffers I used in the 70s take cartridges, but was wondering about other brands. I'm itching to start combing antique stores and ebay!

Newbie wondering about restored/modernized pens?
(Preview)
Drooling over all of these gorgeous vintage pens got me wondering...do people modernize these pens so that they accept cartridges or convertors. Pardon me if this is a really dumb question, but I'm new to this pen fanaticism!

Are dip pen nibs inherently scratchy?

Using a dip pen, are the nibs inherently somewhat scratchy compared to a fountain pen? Or if it is scratchy does that simply mean it has to be smoothed? skyp

Dependable National Pen Co. of Canada
(Preview)
Has anyone ever heard of this company or have any information about them? I received a package of old, broken and distressed pens to practice repairing on. One of them is a rather nice pen from this company. It has a pseudo-Sheaffer look to it and I would guess it was made in the mid 1930s. It does not have a...

Water Pens??
(Preview)
I was "antiquing" today, and came across a pen that used water to write with? Anyone know anything about these? Anyone else seen or use one? Sounds interesting, but I did not bite. I figure that whatever compound in there that mixed with the water may have dried up already!! Frank

Champion Fountain Pens, NYC
(Preview)
Dear Funtain/Fountain Pen Community, Does anyone have any information about the Champion Fountain Pen Company? Jonathan Levey thinks they may have been a subbrand of Starr Pens. I know they made pens during a period from roughly 1935--1945, and that--plus what Veley added--is all I know. All h...

Wearever Desk Pen (Ball Point) Refill

I have an old Wearever desk set type ballpoint pen. It is black and has WEAREVER U.S.A. imprinted on the barrel, which tapers off towards the top. It needs a new refill and when I unscrewed the nose cone out came a Papermate skip free ballpoint refill. Is this the same refill as a moden Papermate Lubrigl...

Conway Stewart 60 Cross-thread cap/barrel - can this be corrected?
(Preview)
Well, this is my first post in the forum since signing up this week...as I come back to a hobby I started when in my teens during the 90s! Anyhow, enough of that and on to the point so to speak... I've recently got hold of a great Conway Stewart 60. Seems to fill and write largely OK. The only problem is the...
