sheaffer vac fill section doesn't want to screw in
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone, I've been away for a while. I got busy with work and other things I had to attend to so my little projects sat on my work table for a long time.

Anyway, I finally got ready to assemble my Sheaffer vac fill and I can't get it to screw in. It's a tight, tight fit. I tried heating and got it in further but I stopped. Should I keep heating the section and barrel?

Sounds like it might be too big for that barrel.....

Trying any more heat and force could crack the barrel!

It actually came from that barrel. I had to heat it to remove it and now I thought to just reassemble and it's giving me difficulty.

Issy,

I was starting to think it was the one I sold you!

The risk is still there that too much force could crack it! Use a little heat, but sparingly! You want it to "seat" back in properly. You also do not want the opposite effect in that too much heat expands the barrel in that it no longer fits the section. I have done that myself!

Hi Frank, thanks for the tip. I think I'll start over by unscrewing the whole thing again and then reseating again. :p
