Sac size for Eversharp Skyline
Permalink Closed

I've a favorite Eversharp Skyline (my only one but it is a favorite fine nib) that I decided needed a thorough cleaning. I was able to slip the section out of the barrel by hand and was surprised to see that the sac was deformed. It was twisted and bent and constricted instead of straight and plump.

I thought maybe a good cleaning would refill it and straighten it out, but no, it remains deformed.
I guess I need to replace the sac.

What size sac fits the regular size Eversharp Skyline?

I can feel there is some sort of breather tube within the sac. Are there any special concerns for replacing the sac around the breather tube? May the tube be removed, cleaned and replaced easily? (Easy for me, that is).

Any special concerns before I tackle this?

I've resacced pens before but never one with a breather tube.

So, to recap.
What size sac?
Any special concerns?

Much thanks,
Andy

You've gotten through the tough part.
Skylines take a sz. 16 tapered sac but there's
a lot of em out there with a straight sac in em
I've a few myself they work just fine. The breather
tube should pull out don't twist it. If it should break
off use a 1/16" drill in your hand to get out the
broken piece. Those tubes are brittle. If you don't
have pure talc use powdered graphite...and no it
won't harm rubber. Your pen had a sac in it that
was too big so don't crowd the new one at the top
of the barrel.

Skylines take one of 2 sizes.  The Executives take a straight 20 and thw two smaller sizes each take a tapered 16 x 2 5/8.  The tapered sacks are necessary due to the shape of the barrel of course.  Some folks have been able to use a straight 14 as that is about what the 16 tapers down to, but that size requires a lot of stretch to the sac opening and of course the 14 holds a lot less ink.

Hope this helps
Syd

Haven't done it yet but I will report when I get around to it. Still some choices to make.
