i bought a taperite (don't know the model) a few months ago and i was a bit frustrated cos' the darn thing spat ink when one shakes it up and down. after several atempts from the seller to re-sac and later by me, it kept doing it until i realised by talking to vintage FP users that, hey! it's a vintage i can't expect it to behave like modern pens. so now it sits with pride in my collection and i use it with pelikan BB (my own formula... i can't remenber the ratio).

the nib is a 14k medium with a nice line variation. lets see if anyone can help me ID it. the cap has 13 rings with a star (that resembles the chrysler symbol) at the bottom of the cap. you can't see it in the pic i'm posting)

Thats a Statleigh model from the mid/late 40's with the Stars & Stripes cap. Yours looks to be the steel w/ gold clip version. this also came in a gold tone as well. The taperite/Citation/Stateleigh model lines are some of the great underrated & unapprecieated pieces in the Waterman family.

If your looking for some great pens that you can pick up on the cheap. Look at these. Both open & semi hooded nibs. Everything from full 'zounds thats nice' flex, BB Stubs to Accountant EF & everything in between. Comfortable size & classic clean looks. Another one I don't see a down side to.

I've been working on rebuilding the top of the cap/clip & barrel end of a nice black Citation most of the day. Just need to let this layer of celluloid cure for a week or so & then shape it up some to finish cureing. Pics when it's finished.

the only reason why i don't buy another one... and i've been tempted... it is solely because they are sooooooooo hard to take appart to re-sac!!!

i guess if i get them cheap enough it won't matter if i crack them (LOL)!!

True, There is a bit of a learning curve with these 7 a higher than average breakage rate. However, in the end it's still worth the $$ & effort. Heck, even if you do kill a barrel or 3 you'll still have an invalueable start on your parts bin. A must have for anyone handling their own repairs.
