I'm a new member and what first brought me to the forum was to talk to people who have solved this problem. I bought a large model hard rubber Inkograph in sad shape and began rebuilding. I replaced the ink sac with a #20, freed up everything and Noodled it up. It writes fine, but when I turn the pen with the nib up, the nib weight falls to the bottom of the sac. It's real fun getting it back into the tube again now that it has a new ink sac. I can unscrew the now inky nib from the body to see that the weight rests free on the nib body and can be lifted from the nib. In other words, is there a part missing that would hold the weight from falling away from the nib and disappearing into the sac? Thanks to the members in advance.
It looks like someone broke off the end so now its jagged and open. I'll have to make an extension and cap with a hole the same diameter as the sac nipple. I have a degree in jewelry design and fabrication so tools and ability should be no problem. Should I use shellac to glue it so it could be reversed or removed at a later time and would plastic tubing be a good start. I don't want to use metal tubing because if a problem later with dissimilar metals. But would silver tube be OK with that iron weight?
Dan, anything that won't corrode when immersed in ink, and is strong enough to hold up to the weight thumping against it occasionally, should be fine. If you have the means, re-creating the entire section would be best. I'd use shellac only to attach the sac, and a good epoxy for the repair if you decide to just piece it.
