HisNibs.com update -- Halloween 'Selfies' Contest
October 26th, 2014

Greetings all,

As everyone seems to be taking 'selfies' these days, let's have some fun and
make a Halloween/fountain pen contest out of it! The top submission will
receive a 'His Nibs' store credit worth $25.00 toward the purchase of a pen,
ink, pen roll, whatever you'd like from the website. The details are here
http://hisnibs.com/selfies.htm, or read more to the right.

What would Halloween be without some scary pen items
http://hisnibs.com/halloween.htm?

Three Monteverde favorites are now back-in-stock. The Prima
http://hisnibs.com/prima.htm, the Tool fountain pens
http://hisnibs.com/one_touch_stylus_tool.htm and ink
http://hisnibs.com/monteverde_ink.htm.

As this newsletter goes out to a mailing list of thousands of customers,
please understand if there's a delay in answering your email queries or
orders after one of these is sent. We will respond in order received and as
soon as possible!

Halloween Selfies Contest

As everyone seems to be taking 'selfies' these days, let's have some fun and
make a Halloween/fountain pen contest out of it! The top submission will
receive a 'His Nibs' store credit worth $25.00 toward the purchase of a pen,
ink, pen roll, whatever you'd like from the website. Post your selfie with a
fountain pen theme -- such as your favorite pen, cartoon, ink or anything
that you feel relates -- and if you want to incorporate something for
Halloween, that would be great too.

The winner selection will be made by the vassals at 'His Nibs' based on
creativity, originality, composition or complete randomness if we're all
suffering from a Halloween sugar high.

To post, you can either go to our Facebook page
http://hisnibs.com/selfies.htm, and just 'like' the post pinned to the top
and click on the 'Attach a Photo' icon in the comment box -- or, if you're
not on Facebook, then please attach your picture to an email and send it to
me at hisnibs@hisnibs.com with the subject line: Halloween Selfie.

The winner's selfie will be displayed on www.facebook.com/hisnibs1,
@Hisnibs1 on Twitter, http://hisnibs.blogspot.com, www.pinterest.com/hisnibs
or any of a thousand other social media sites that come to mind . Whether
you'd like your name revealed or would like to remain anonymous is up to
you -- just let me know.

Additionally, we'll feature the winning selfie in an upcoming 'His Nibs'
newsletter, which you can subscribe to at http://tinyurl.com/q6r5shd. The
newsletter is typically published a couple of times a month and features new
items, re-stocked items, pen news and blog features.

The contest remains open through to the end of Halloween on October 31st,
2014 and I'll start it off with a couple of my own (and I know you can do a
lot better!)...

If there are a number of worthy contenders, I may be prompted to expand to a
couple of 'Honorable Mentions' as well. So, have some fun and show off your
pens, costumes -- and most important -- yourself!!!!

Prima back in stock

"Dear Norman, the Monteverde Prima in Turquoise is even more beautiful than
its website photo. I followed your advice about nib sizes, ordered the M
which, as you suggested, writes a Fine line but wide enough to show the ink
color well, and it writes very smoothly and effortlessly, a pleasure to use.
Thanks for your excellent service and I really appreciate the assurance that
the nib has been inspected and adjusted."
N. P., Montreal, Canada

"Hi Norman. Just wanted to give a big thank you as the green Prima came this
morning. Love it! I saw this pen when it first came out and was immediately
struck by the luminous green, as I have an excellent collection of 1920s OS
jade Sheaffer Flat=Tops. You tuned the nib perfectly, and I mean perfectly.
I like them extra-fine and pretty dry, and this F nib completely fills the
bill. This one will become a daily user. I also appreciate your kind and
personal note that you put in with it. That makes dealing with you a
pleasure, and makes me feel like an individual. The website is also very
personal, and is one of the best on the web---if not THE best. Thank you x
100 for another excellent purchasing experience. I hope your business
multiplies greatly. Others can take lessons from you."
S. D., Luthrerville MD

"Hi Norman. The pen arrived safely. Thanks very much for the excellent
packaging and your customized note. Truly exemplary service. The pen is
wonderful and truly great value. I look forward to ordering from you again."
J. C., Penticton, Canada

Stylus Tool fountain pens

The fountain pen version has a screw-off cap and is designed to work with a
short International ink cartridge, such as those from Private Reserve. To
insert the refill, one needs to pull out the capped nib unit from the pen's
barrel, insert the cartridge, and push the nib unit back into the pen.
Smartly, Monteverde imprinted a two-headed arrow on the nib unit so that it
can be aligned with the pen's clip -- ensuring that when the cap is
unscrewed for use, the nib is in the correct position. The nib is a one-size
fits all affair, which I'd describe as a light-medium, meaning it falls
between a typical western fine and medium.

"Just a quick note to tell you the Touch Tool Stylus is now my favorite and
daily use stylus. I've past along your address to a couple of friends who
like my impressionist use of the stylus and they liked the little gimmicks,
screwdriver, level, ruler increments. i actually used the ruler to set a
scale from my ipad screen with a quick measurement. Coincidentally, I wear a
customized pair of extraordinary glasses; while in Starbucks, one the
friends interested in this pen saw me adjust a screw with the pens
screwdriver. While I have many miniature screwdrivers for that purpose, none
were conveniently with me. Actually, it has good weight and leverage on the
hexagonal body and length -- so, another positive score for MONTEVERDE
designer."
D. L, Miami Beach, FL

Monteverde ink

Monteverde bottled ink features the latest leading European ink treatment
formula (ITF). ITF is designed to drastically improve ink-flow quality,
extend cap-off time, shorten ink drying time on paper and lubricate and
protect ink feeding systems from corrosion and clogging.

Made in Austria and packaged in the U.S.A., each bottle 90ml (3oz.) bottle
is packaged in a Monteverde green gift box that displays the ink color on
both the front and sides.

On the blog...Chimp vs human! - Working Memory test

"Ayumu the chimpanzee has made headlines around the world for his ability to
beat humans on memory tests, in both speed and accuracy. Does Ayumu's
ability force us to reconsider our assumptions about human superiority to
other primates?"

I've seen these experiments before. There are even apps where you can
attempt to beat the scores and times of Chimpanzees (such as 'Ape Test').
Their cognitive abilities, i.e. 'intelligence', are clearly superior to homo
sapiens in this particular area. But why? How does this ability benefit them
in their natural habitat? I've yet to read of a convincing answer. As our
favorite Vulcan would say, "Fascinating".
