This is a cheap ($6) find I picked up recently - a NOS Chromatic one-color BP in gold plating, made in the US. This is a cheap pen in all aspects, unfortunately, and it probably will not get much use in my hands.
The pen came in a cardboard box in a clear sleeve and foam, with a small cardboard ID tag. The finish is overall very good, except for minor scuffing on the clip. The original refill installed did not write, so a look showed a Papermate to be a direct match. Good luck so far...then...
Upon pulling the pen apart to change the refill, the Papermate went in, and the Chromatic refused to go back together as it had. There is a press-fit sleeve that apparently shifted, so I pulled it out (as shown below) and spent 30 minutes finessing the placement of the sleeve back to where either refill would work. This will probably occur every refill change, so oh joy for that. The center gold barrel ring is now in the box, since it complicated the process even more.
The twist mechanism is unique in that the refill sort of "snaps" into the writing position. That part of the Chromatic system is very nice, but the refill only advances a small distance past the barrel tip. It does not affect the writing, so far. I just prefer to have more of the refill exposed when writing.
Sizewise, the Chromatic is thinner than a Jotter BP, and only slightly longer tip to cap. This will be tough to use for any length of time in my hands.
I did not find much on the Chromatic on the web. Aside from multi-color models of the pen on EBay, there is little info that is easily found. There are pencil models too, I did learn. For the price, it does what a pen does, with only a tad of uniqueness. But at least I can get refills that work...
