Loclen Orbita!
Permalink Closed

I was encouraged by a pen friend to consider purchasing a Loclen fountain pen.  I asked him why he spoke with such passion about his recommendation.  His response…..“Because I love my Loclen—it is my favorite among all the others.”  Now I will be saying that, too!

I have been enjoying many different fountain pens for many years.

The big deal about this writing instrument is the value--we can buy pens costing less as well as those costing more, but the outstanding value with the Orbita is that you get what you pay for...and then some!  The owner of Loclen, Carlo, is an extremely nice and accommodating person.  I found this to be true when communicating with him before the pen was shipped, and, especially important to all of us>after the merchandise arrived.  Carlo instantly and completely rectified a problem.  This is impressive because he and I were strangers....I had never owned a Loclen.  Confidence and trust in a seller is crucial to us as buyers/collectors.  Carlo truly stands behind what he sells, his concern for his customers is the highest.  He proved that he is customer service-focused.

Now what about this pen is so great?

The heart of a fountain pen is the nib/feed.  Please see below for the URL to the exact nib on the Orbita--it is an 18K Bock nib/feeder.  It is just right--not too wet, and not too dry.  Good ink flow...no skipping.  Smooth out of the box...no scratchy feeling.  Continued...

PRECISION NIB OF BOCK

Many of the most expensive fountain pens in the world are dressed with Bock nibs/feeds.  The Loclen has this advantage as well.  I asked a repair person at a Pen Show about nibs and feeds and recall his comment...Bock is Best!

There are 6 photos below.  I used Waterman Serenity Blue, formerly named Florida Blue, as it is a reasonable match to the elegant blue in the pen body, and, Waterman ink has served me so well.  (Admittedly we would like to see more exciting colors from the brand.)  Speaking of the pen body...the blue finish reminds me of a S.T.duPont blue fountain pen in Lapis blue.  The Loclen Orbita has subtle swirls throughout the blue acrylic--another unique feature.  Notice the unusual clip!  It is described here:  http://loclen.com/pe...ountainpen.html   along with other details, such as the dimensions, at the bottom of this website page.

This clip commands attention and generates questions from observers...both pen enthusiasts and people in general.  A scanned writing sample is attached.

Most manufacturers have time-limited warranties--not the Loclen!  Here is a copy/paste from the website--this is a vital part of a purchase--and there are only a small number of manufacturers who offer a lifetime guarantee.

LOCLEN guarantees the extremely high quality of all its pens. Life time warranty is provided by free and full replacement of all pens that may have defects due to the finishing or the mechanical internal components. For any other question or concerns, please e-mail us at info@loclen.com

I hope that there was something of value to everyone reading the review, and your questions and comments are welcome!

Thank You, and enjoy the weekend!

P.S.  My wife commented favorably about the pen, and then so did my neighbor who was visiting earlier this am.  I expect more compliments to follow--thanks to Carlo and Loclen!
