A Smattering of USA Wooden Pencils
Permalink Closed

I finally gathered up the few wooden pencils in the house that I believe are of US origin, and grabbed a shot. I have no idea of the years they represent, but I imagine they are closer to the 1960s or later than older. No gems here, just some found around the house. So here they are...

Top: A Thor Nationals #2

Down 1: A private label green #3 for Merck & Co. (Merck pharmaceuticals, and so much more)

Down 2: A #2 Empire Choice brand pencil

Bottom: Another private label #2 pencil for Fay's Drugs Stores, a retail drugstore chain founded Fairmount (Syracuse), NY. It was sold to JC Penney in 1996.

Penmanent,

Thanks for the kind words. Pens are my main collecting focus, so there have been a lot of older pencils I've discarded (after much use) without any thought to future collectability. My prime focus to collecting is modern US-made pens (and only a very few pencils). Hanging out here (and enjoying Chthulhu's great contributions), has opened my collecting to include more pencils. I'll have to see what else I can come up with!

Hubert,

Glad I could "help." <G>

I generally don't pay much attention to woodcase pencils unless they're something unusual or very old, but I never thrown them away. I also have all the non-functional mechanical pencils I've acquired, either in the repair box or a spare parts box. For that matter, I think the only writing instruments I've ever tossed were those totally beyond redemption.
