Any tips for spotting a fake Montblanc on eBay
Permalink Closed

Hi guys

I have been looking on eBay at a few Montblanc fountain pens, I was actually quite surprised just how many there are listed, but with some of them going for quite low prices and in some cases to low to be true.  So the question is are there any tips for the Montblanc novice for spotting a fake Montblanc on eBay.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Paul

Not an easy answer. Good fakes are usually expensive (reportedly 50% of the real pen's value, which is quite a lot if you are speaking about a 149). Cheap fakes are usually spotted because of the IPG in the nib or other obvious reasons.
Just MHO.

Martin is correct, buying MB pens via ebay is risky!

The best solution is to buy these pens on pen forums from known dealers/collectors.

I agree with Frank! Stick to Fountain Pen forums to buy pens like this, especially 149's where you can run into problems with the walls of the pen needing to be maintained or siliconed! This gets very expensive! E-bay is very unreliable in this area and all you are doing is taking a 50/50 chance!
