New pen purchase choices
Permalink Closed

I'm new to fountain pens and started with a Lamy Safari, then TWISBI 540 and now I'm ready to take another step up.  I'm considering a Pelikan M200, Waterman Expert and Pilot Namiki Custom 742.  Anyone have any experience with all three or at least 1 or two?

Any other suggestions in these price ranges?  I don't really want to spend more then necessary at this stage, esp if all three write equally.  I also really like the classic look of the Pilot, with rounded top and bottom so if there are any other pens in this range or even less that are as good, any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thank you.

I only have experience with the Pelikan M200. It's a solid pen and an ink sipper. I have a fine nib which does't always work well with highly saturated inks or with fast writing for long periods. Even though it's a smallish pen it holds a lot of ink which is a plus and the nib was very smooth off the shelf...much smoother than the two Safaris I purchased. Another plus is nib interchangeability.

+1 on the Pel M200! You can also step up to the M400 and get the 14k gold nib!
These pens should be found in the +/-$200 range!
The Pilot 742, I believe, is in the same price range!

Regards,
Frank
