a sheaffer from my F-i-L from his storage
Permalink Closed

hi.

my father-in-law found a pen in his storage and gave it to me last night.

i intend to use it for daily use at work. been using a Cross for too long.

i held it under normal temp water tap for 3-5 minutes until all the ink was washed away. i have a few questions now:

1. what model/year is this piece? all i see is a "M" on the section just below the feed.

2. what is its worth in $ - I don't want to sell it ever, but just want to know its worth.

3. should I be flossing the nib tip gap before loading ? i just read that somewhere.

4. any other tips (home solution) to get this in better shape. one side of the cap seems to have some rust or crud maybe because it was resting on that side for a very long time in storage.

5. can i just pull out the nib and feed to clean it further? i will know if it leaks only once i load it with a fresh ink cartridge.

Thats a Sheaffer Javelin. Medium steel nib. cartridge or converter filler. Value $10-20. This will take any standard sheaffer cartridge. Flush out the nib/section in room temp water as it sounds you have already done. Plug in a new cartridge give it a squeeze to flood the feed and start writing. This may be a lower end pen, but it's still a tough pen & a reliable writer.

Enjoy!
