I have an Esterbrook M2. The cap won't screw down all the way. When I remove the section, it does. So it isn't a thread issue. I look inside the cap and it seems fine. The inner cap isn't loose or anything. I'm wondering if I have the wrong inner cap or if there's something else that's wrong.
Seems odd that there is a problem with that. Do you have a pic? It's a metal cap with a plastic section/barrel, right? I wanna see that you have the right cap/barrel combination!

Hi Dennis - It came to me this way. It's perplexing.
Hi Frank - Yes it's a metal cap and plastic barrel. Again, my camera is giving me trouble but it looks exactly like the blue one here:
http://www.esterbrook.net/m2.shtml
The one in the pic above has the inner cap split. Mine isn't split but the gap is about the same. So strange. I look inside the cap and nothing seems wrong w/ the inner plastic. Maybe I just got a bad egg? It's a great pen. No issues other than that and it came at a bargain price w/ a 9128 nib.
EDIT: I tried pushing the inner plastic further in but it won't budge & I'm afraid I might crack it. One option I'm consider is shaving off some of the bottom of the plastic.

Good to hear that your pen resembles the one that Brian has listed! (I have an M2 pen myself in grey posted in the "I'm Sellin" forum here)
You will see that M2 pens have the color section matching the barrel. Is your section the same color? The other question I would pose is try putting a 1xxx/2xxx nib in the section instead of the 9xxx you have. It's a stretch, but the length of that nib might be interfering! (usually not though!)

have you run the cap through an ultra sonic cleaner? it may have slipped 'down' some & gotten frozen/stuck with ink/squag build up. If you can, pull the inner cap, clean everything & reassemble. If that doesn't work, we'll try something else.

Hi Frank - It's the same color. I tried swapping nibs as you suggested. Same problem. Also, it doesn't feel like the end of the cap is hitting the nib when I screw it shut.
Hi Dennis - I popped it in the ultrasonic. It wasn't that gunky. I tried pushing to seat it further in. Still no go. I can't disassemble it until I can buy a tap--maybe tomorrow.
Giovanni at tryphon.it sells an inner cap puller with 5 different sized bits that fit almost every pen ever made. Last I checked it was $125 or so but if your going to be doing repairs, it's 100% worth the expense. If I hadn't sold mine lest year, I'd have let you borrow it for the job.
