Help me Identify this sheaffer pen please

I received this pen 10 years ago from my grandmother , I cant find any pictures or information regarding this pen , hope to get some info.
The pen is color gold but not sure if its a real gold or not

Hello Ayman!

Welcome to The Community!
(Great job posting pics as well!)

It appears to be a gold plated TD pen (TouchDown).
It's a term Sheaffer used for plunger fillers.
Does the pen work?

What I find interesting is that the nib looks like a conical one (rounded at the base).
Is this a "Made in Canada" model? Rounded nibs like this were usually on Snorkel pens
(Like the TD, but a "rod" came out if the front of the pen under the nib).
Pens made in Canada were often different models, so the nib setup could be different.

It's a beauty nonetheless!

Hi thank you for your reply ,
It say made in USA on the pen and Sheaffer , I havent really tried the pen , its been setting in my box for years and just came across it today .
Any idea if the pen worth anything?

You can do a "water test" with a TD pen-
Place the nib under running water, and pull the plunger back down
(this would fill the pen if the sac inside was good).
Next, pull the plunger back up, and push down again into the sink.
If water comes out, chances are you have a good sac/seal!

More than likely though, the pen should be serviced to replace the seals and rubber sac.
The pen counts on an tight seal to work properly!

As far as value- sure, these pens are desirable, and the gold content will help the value.
But, I'm sure it has more sentimental value than anything. wink.gif

wow thanks alot for the information man , I really didnt know how valuable is this pen .
I am asking these questions because i fall in love with the pen when i saw it and i was thinking or re plating gold on it so it looks newer and nicer .
Do you think its worth it or i should put it back in the box.

ooh by the way i did the test you told me about , there was actually ink coming out after few pushing and pulling and i was able to use the pen for writing but ink was really low.

Congratulations on finding a nice pen!

Thats a 1950-52 Sheaffer Touchdown Crest model. (with a 2 tone conical 'Triumph' nib.) Yours looks pretty clean & ding free from the pics you posted. I'd just give it a good polish with some simichrome & a soft cloth. I can almost guarantee with 100% certainty it'll clean up very nice. Probably little or no need to replate it. Restoration should only run you $25-30. I do restoration/repair & can handle it for you with zero problems, or if you like, I can walk you through the process to do it yourself, but you'll need some special tools/supplies to get it done properly.


Value wise $100-150 in restored condition. These are wonderful pens & are superb writers.

Thanks for the variable informations guys .
I did some research based on the info you told me , and i found this website:

The one i have looks exactly like Sheaffer Snorkel Triumph Pen except my nib is gold at front silver in the back.
I will try your advice and see how the simichrome would work with it , I will post pictures when its done .
