I went to the NYC show in the city for the first time on Saturday. I had been to the Meadowlands (North Jersey) for the show when it was there in prior years. I drove in, and managed to find a great parking rate just three blocks from the Park Central Hotel where the event was held.
I found the show to be good, but surprisingly small. I found the prior shows in Jersey to be larger. There were plenty of familiar faces to be seen at the vendor tables. I saw Pendelton Brown Tweaking nibs, and Ron Zorn repairing pens. They were the only people there working on pens, which I was also surprised to see. Brian Grey was there showing his amazing creations, as well as taking care of his client's pens if necessary. He would have bought his pen grinding equipment had he not flown to the show. I can tell you personally that his tweaking skills are very good!
I bought three pens at this show. I made up for not buying any at DC! (LOL) At the Philly and DC shows, I was concentrating on getting parts and repairs done, so it was nice to relax (shop) for a change.
I did buy a TWSBI pen (It is pronounced "Twizbee"). This is a pen that should be twice the cost of its' $40 tag! It's a demo that looks more like crystal than resin, and you can feel the quality! I will be doing a review of it here shortly- stay tuned!
I also bought a Delta Italiano in Brown- one of my "pens of interest" for this show! I also bought a pen that I was always interested in, but not sure that I would buy one. I found an Eversharp Demo Pen in Clear, and decided that I had to buy it! This is the reissue Skyline model from the mid 90's, but it appears hardly used! I love demos, and was not going to let a unique one like this get by!
Feel free to add your experience of NYC!
Frank
