Any hope for one of those that does not draw ink? (LOL)
I just got one of these pens (Rapidograph 3060 No. 0 ) in a lot this weekend. I never had one of these before. I was reading on the other board about filling it, but it does not draw ink. The piston screw knob seems to work properly (just unscrew to open and then screw back down in bottle to fill ?). I do not know how to open (Take Apart) one of these. Any suggestions or experience with these?

on the point end, there's a small 'ring' where a wrench can fit. unscrew it in normal fashion. no fancy backwards threads here. just soak the whole thing in water/ammonia mix like normal to clean it good. then take it apart and soak wash again. the earbulb flush will do wonders. i actually have an earbulb specially made for these pens that screws on the the threaded end of the section.
first is the cleaning kit i got with my pen in college. i'm not going to post the barrel b/c that part is different. but cleaning the 'nib' section is the same.
the flat part is where you grab to unscrew. pliers over some rubber or something to grip it and not tear it up work fine.
this is the actual tool to unscrew it with. but if your pen is all seized up with dry ink it will just 'strip' the tool out. i've got two of these and one is rounded out from trying to pull apart somebody's pen once at school.
here's the bulb cleaner screwed onto the section. all you do is take it off the barrel and screw it into this thing. i would think this would only be necessary for regular cleaning if you use your pen a lot, before you put it away for a long time. if you just rinse it out after you're done you won't have to worry about this. it's for really getting things cleaned.
1 is the section 2 is the part you unscrew with the funny tool 3 is the wire tip that actually touches the paper and leaves a line. you normally would never need to get it down to these parts unless it is seriously bad. but then you'd have to be careful not to bend that wire. bend it and it's trash.
well then how do you get it back into the section part without bending it? put it in there very carefully, almost by dropping it into place, with the wires pointed down of course, and sort of wiggle the section piece until you hear it fall into place. it does it all by itself basically. if you try to make it go into place you'll break the wire.
but i would just unscrew the whole point unit from the barrel and shove it on the end of an ear bulb and suck in some ammonia water and force it out a bunch. or soak it if it's really bad. but i still wouldn't take it down to the wire until after you've soaked it a good long while. i had a whole set of these that i sold a while back that i had to clean. they had been loaded and never used and sat with ink for YEARS. after they soaked i pulled them down to all the pieces and very carefully pulled ink gunk off of the wire and then cleaned them in the ultra sonic cleaner again.
So Koh-I-Noor actually made a "cleaning kit" for these pens? WOW! I figured that the section part where the point sits is the "nut" you were talking about. I'll have to put rubber between that, and a regular pair of pliers! Thanks for the info, and pics!

Well, getting it all apart was easy enough. It was actually pretty clean, BUT the "wire" you are referring to was bent! I am assuming this was the reason why the pen was not working/filling correctly? Is this part available?
Do you have any spares?

I did land a new #3 point for this pen on the 'bay! Will follow up when it gets here!
Frank
Ok, so after a couple of days trying to get this pen working, (and checking with watch art to make sure I was using it right!), I have concluded that the piston is not working properly.
The old point was bad anyway in that the inner needle was bent. I got the new in pack .8 point (I like med/bold point better anyway) from the 'bay, and tried to fill it. No go! I got the point to fill and write with a syringe on it's own, so took that out of the equation. But, I could not manage to get that piston filler to work properly (aka no ink was being drawn in from the screw/unscrew process).
All is not lost! I have syringe filled the pen, and am using it that way! It works well enough to ignore the piston problem! As you have seen in other posts, I do have/like RB pens that use FP ink.
Hey, maybe I'll get bored with it soon, and have a near new #3 (.8) Point to sell! (LOL)
