In the beginning...

all the fountain pens were pretty blocky and had flat tops. Then Sheaffer introduced the ...

Balance.

The new Balance pens were streamlined, pointed at the end and the now familiar cigar shape, and they took the world by storm.

They were also learning what could be done with the newest sensation, plastics. Their unique formulation was called radite and while it was similar to what they used in the older flat top pens, some features were amazing. One that I really love was called Ebonized Pearl.

It is a clear material that appears black except where embedded chunks of abalone flash and shimmer in the light.

A very beautiful pen......and now that you mention it....sure looks sort of MB to me....146/9 is it's clone.....

It's one of the pens everyone copied, like a few years later everyone copied the P-51.
