His Nibs.com update --
Variations on a theme

Greetings everyone,

I just received a very large re-stocking
order from China which included lots of old
favorites (some of which are shown below),
new versions of some of those
favorites, and lot of new models as well. The
new models will be introduced in upcoming
newsletters, once I have the opportunity to
take photos and write descriptions.

Speaking of writing, novelist Helen Chapman
adds her two cents worth on the Writers
page...talking about using a fountain pen of
course! Her latest novel is entitled Neutral
Zone (she looks far too demure to be writing
about serial killers!).

For those of you who tweet on Twitter...I've
started a fountain pen Twibe. Come join us,
and discover how many words you can invent
beginning with 'tw'. biggrin.gif

New additions: Dragon's Offspring

When I introduced the Jinhao Dragon's
Offspring in copper a short time back, they
sold out in near-record time. Well, they're
back, but now joined by two other
versions....Aged Silver and Aged Gold.

I'm told that copper is still the underlying
metal of these pens, but a colored patina has
been added that accounts for these two
gorgeous additions.

New additions: Huashilai Agate

Meet the latest addition to the Huashilai
3000 line of pens, the Agate.
This joins the
Tiger Eye, Nebula
and Globular Cluster.

"The Huashilai 3000 Nebula is bold in
beauty. It is comfortably heavy and I love
the "snap sound" of quality when replacing
the cap. Elegant in black is high society in
your hand."
N. S., Van Nuys, CA

"Wow, Norman - nice packaging and note.
Thanks for the care you took in putting my
order together. In this era of corporate
everything, I had almost forgotten what the
personal touch in business was. It's been a
real pleasure doing business with you. The
Huashilai Tiger Eye was a complete surprise -
because of its price, I wasn't expecting the
quality metal fittings of this pen. It is
much more than I expected."
C. F., Los Angeles, CA

"Hi! I never got back to you with a report on
the two pens I ordered from the little group
you recommended. I love them love them love
them. Especially the Tiger Eye. The weight
and balance. The seriousness of purpose -- I
like it immensely!...Thank you for the
recommendations. I want to try so many
things! Something worth making money for."
S. B., Venice, CA

Back in stock: Duke Silver Rings

Although the Golden Rings is still proving
elusive, the Silver Rings has returned.

"I wanted to let you know my friend, Mike,
safely delivered my Golden Rings pen and I
can't tell you how impressed I am with it. I
really like the size, the weight, and the
overall good looks and quality of this pen.
I was attracted to it right away on your
site, and it has not disappointed me. I
normally use roller ball pens and have never
felt comfortable with fountain pens in the
past, but this one is absolutely great.
Thanks so much for making it available to
us!" D.A., Kansas City, MO

Received it today. As classy looking as my
Mont Blanc Diplomat, and might even replace
it as my favorite. Definitely will be used
every day. Fantastic value!" J.S.,
Martinsville, WV

Back in stock: Baoer 8-Horses

"Got my pen today. LUV it! I like the way it
feels in my hand, also, it's one of the
smoothest writing pens I have. Thanks."
J. C., Madison, WI

"The Baoer 8- Horse Silver & Bronze Fountain
Pen is time past with its Asian calligraphy
and its engraved horses. The black cap with
its striking gold accent crowns this
beautiful pen. It's medium weight fits
snugly in your shirt pocket and will be well
noticed by everyone you meet. I love how the
cap fits tightly on the end of the pen, well
balanced. It's like writing with a royal
scepter. A pen of antiquity is a welcome
addition to anyone's collection. I'm glad I
acquired both the silver and bronze."
N. S., Van Nuys, CA

"Norman, the pens arrived today. Thank you
so much! Just wanted to say, I really can't
believe the Baoer is "just" a $20 pen. Nicely
made, nicely fit, writes excellently. I
think this is a real sleeper, and a real steal.
The Haolilai is every bit as nice (I refilled
it with PR Burgundy Mist, as I was looking
for a darker ink), but there's just something
about the 8-Horse that really appeals to me.
Maybe it's the historian in me, and the
"vintage bronze" look of the pen. But...
Well, I like 'em both! Thanks again, Norman.
Very wonderful pens. And excellent service,
as always!"
B. J., Buckhannon, WV

Back in stock: Jinhao Silver Chain Dragon

Who says you have to be subtle? Make a
statement, I say!

Here's another terrific addition to the
Jinhao lineup. The Silver Chain is another
full-sized pen -- 5/12" capped, 6" posted and
a full 5" with cap laid aside -- with an
oversized nib!

Back in stock: Duke Carbon Fibre

"I've received my pens and ink. Thank you
again for your help in making my selection.
The quality of service you provide really
differentiates you from your competitors ...
the quick responses, timely shipping, and hand
written note all made for a great experience.
I'll definitely be a repeat customer. The
Duke Carbon Fiber is everything I hoped it
would be. I'm impressed by the quality.
Last week I had the opportunity to write with a
Mont Blanc roller ball pen and it felt cheap
(light and plastic) compared to my new Duke.
The weight of the pen is really nice, the
subtle blue is very attractive, and I'm
amazed at how fine the light medium nib writes."
W. D., Canada

"Hi Norman. Many thanks for the red carbon
fibre Duke pen which arrived today. It's a
real beauty! The pen writes extremely
smoothly - and, even with the postage to the
UK, is great value for money. It handles like
a pen selling at several times the price..."
M. H., Sale, United Kingdom

"I just received my Duke Carbon Fibre
Fountain Pen in Red and I think it is
absolutely gorgeous. The pictures displayed
do not do this pen justice. I am thrilled to
have it. Thank you very much."
J. L., Los Angeles, CA

Back in stock: Haolilai ZHF300

Now here's a pen that's been out-of-stock for
a couple of years! I finally found another
supplier in China for this classy black and
gold model.

Back in stock: Hero Victorian

"Hi Norman, Just wanted to let you know that
the Hero Victorian arrived this afternoon and
I have been using it quite happily for
several hours. The nib is nice and smooth.
I primed the converter with a little water
with dish detergent, just to make sure there
would be no sticking of ink to the sides.
Don't know if the converter needed it, but I
did it anyway as a preventative. (I wish I
had as much luck getting my more expensive
pens going.) All together a nice pen and a
good writer."
M. L., Jamaica Plain, MA

"Norman, I received the ink and victorian.
Both are very nice. The ink is a great color
and may quickly become my favorite. The nib
on the victorian is very smooth. Also good
to hold. I have to write more with it to see
where it fits in with the rest of my pens."
P. D., Tooele, UT

Helen Chapman on fountain pens

"I'm old enough to have learned cursive with
a fountain pen, and never got over it. Oh,
ball points and gel pens are okay. But
nothing comes close to the look and feel of a
good, real pen. A good pen is my best friend
in court, taking notes for the boss, and
handling exhibits between attorneys and the
court.

My stories always start in longhand, usually
while sitting in the courtroom awaiting the
judge's verdict. Yes, I do the majority of
writing on the computer, but I fear I can't
edit there. I still have to print out the
manuscript, then go at it with a pen."

novel... - http://www.hisnibs.com/writers.htm
