Parker 45 Barrel Question
Permalink Closed

Question for the Parker experts! smile

With the P45's, were any of the barrel colors considered "rare"?
Wanted to know if the dark barrel colors were harder to come by than the
lighter colors (vice-versa).

Thanks!
Frank

Frank, I have seen lots of DARK coloured 45 barrel's, but not many light coloured. So I guess that's an indication...smile

Frank, I have to agree with Reactionary. I have had a few 45's but they were either black, red or maroon.

As far as dark colours go, I haven't seen too many green ones;

And for the light colours like grey or teal...... it would belike trying to buy Rocking Horse Poo biggrin

Personally, I think the 45 is a very good everyday pen; and I'd probably go for a light grey one if I could.....(it would go nicely with my grey 51)

But that's just my opinion - and I'm not an expert. smile Good luck!

Gerard.

Thank you both for the advice!

I agree- I like the 45 as well! It is a great everyday pen!
I have a black one in my collection, and I got a handful from that
estate auction we were talking about before Gerard. They were mostly dark colors,
including dark green. No grey/teal though! I was trying to decide which to keep!

Frank,

I would personally put the green one aside and think about what to move on after doing that.

Good luck sorting out your 45 'dilemma'

Gerard.

Great reference Dennis! Thanks!

I did wind up selling all of the color barrels that I got from that estate deal.
I kept a Flighter, Kustom (GF Cap), Signet (all GF) from that deal.
I also have a Black GT that I had previously! 45's have become my favorite everyday users as far as vintage goes. They really are modern pens! Parker never truly "replaced" them!

Agreed, 45's hold a special place in my heart. Every time I get them, I end up passing them along to friends as starter pens. The thing that kills me is I generally only keep 45's with broad or 'special' nibs. When I see a non pen person try one of my pens for the first time i know almost at once if they 'dig it' or not. I talk to them a little while they doodle and write. They always end up gravitating to the 45 with the italic of baby bottom smooth 14K broad. When their eyes light up with that ..DAY-UM! look, I know it's gone and more often than not they end up walking away with it....lol
