What is your favorite ink in each of the major colors?
Permalink Closed

An inquiry to stir up a bit more activity here on FPC

Mine are:
Black, PR Velvet Black
Blue, Levenger's Cobalt
Red, Levenger's Cardinal Red
Green, Levenger's Gemstone Green
Brown, Noodlers Red Black (go figure, it looks brown to me)
Purple, PR Tanzanite
Orange, Diamine Blaze Orange
Permanent, Noodler's Tahitian Pearl

Don't quite fit in an easy color category:
Noodler's Ottoman Rose
Noodler's Apache Sunset

Your thoughts lads and lassies?

Andy

My favorites include:

Black- Parker Quink (any black, really!)
Blue- Diamine Prussian Blue
Red- Diamine Monaco Red (The only "red" I like!)
Green- MB Racing Green
Brown- PR Chocolat

Burgundy- MB Bordeaux, PR Burgundy Mist
Blue-Black- MB, Lamy, Sheaffer
(My preferred Blue)

Obviously, I prefer dark(er) colors! Many times I will experiment
with the blues and the burgundy colors to make them darker!

Frank,

My experience with PR Burgundy Mist is that it "changed" into a muddy brown in the bottle. Is that your experience?

Andy

Andy!

Not as of yet- I just got this bottle at the beginning of the year.
This bottle will probably last me over a year, I'll keep an eye and let you know!
I never used PR before; I used MB Bordeaux, but I think I like this better! PR Chocolat is definitely my new brown!

Unfortunately for me, living in Australia, I can only get red, blue, blue-black, black and green inks; AND only if you like Quink, Sheaffer or Mont Blanc (the latter from the one specialist pen shop in my city).  Therefore, my list will be short...here goes:

Blue: Sheaffer Turquoise (best colour I've used); and Quink Blue-Black (my daily writing ink)

Black: MB Blue-Black (more grey-black than a genuine blue-black)

Green: Sheaffer Emerald (good for Christmas cards)

Red: MB Bordeaux

I might experiment with some other colours when I get up the courage to import a bottle of ink from around the globe.

Hi Frank,

Yes, well picked up.  Thanks for noticing!

It's a 2002 Holden Monaro 5.7 litre coupe.  The colour is called 'Flame', which is almost a tomato orange - and it has same colour leather trim to match.

I just sold my old 1973 Monaro for this one.  It goes like you-know-what, and it handles like a cat on rails!  I love it.

Holden is the Australian subsidiary of GM.  My grandfather worked at Holden  between 1929 and 1975.  The Holden factory is at Elizabeth, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia - less than 1 hour drive from my house.

The car was designed and built here under the badge Monaro, which hadn't been used for 25 years.  GM boss in America liked it so much he asked Holden to build it with a Pontiac badge and make it left hand drive for the American market.  It found its way there in about 2004 as a Pontiac GTO.

A little off-topic I know, but there's the short history.

I did mention the name and description of the colour, so it's not completely off topic with favourite inks laughing.gif

No worries ever going off topic here!
Nice car! Thanks for the Holden history!
Was the '73 in your family? (What was the US variant?)

You can never go wrong with MB, Sheaffer, and Parker inks!
It would be nice to have more choices though.

Frank

The 73 wasn't in my family, but I looked after it while I had it.  It was the 2006 national champion in its class : Factory Authentic.  At least I've still got the trophies.

I don't know how to include a pic, so I'll just change my avatar to show you.

Gerard.

Nice!

It has that Pontiac Tempest look to it from the mid 70's,
though the front looks like a Chevelle! (Chevy)

Yeah, I don't know about adding pictures here either!
It seems impossible unless you put a link from Photobucket, or a place like it!

It is something I would like to change!
I need to talk to someone from activeboard to see about how!

Okay, now back onto the subject of INKS

I notice some of you have mentioned PR - presumably meaning Private Reserve.

They do have a  vast range of colours, and I was after your opinions on their worth.

I was thinking of investing in a couple of bottles from the USA

Thanks,

Gerard.

Back on Topic?? What fun is that??  (LOL)

Ok, seriously Gerard- Yes Private Reserve (PR) inks have a great range of colors, and come in at a decent price (here, anyway!).
Most of the pen retailers due carry PR inks. One place that I recommend is isellpens.com. Todd is a great guy to do business with! I believe he is a member here. I am not sure of your shipping costs, but I know he will probably sell inks cheaper than anyone else. He also has a great selection of pens! He is an on-line retailer. I have been dealing with him for a few years now.

Highest Recommendation!
Frank
