Vac blurps ink - how to fix?
Permalink Closed

I have a vac... it's a Kullock, which is nice, because I can see inside and it seems like everything is in place.  The problem is that it will lay down a nice blob of ink on the page after a while of writing.  I figure this is my hand heat.

The other problem is that it releases ink with slight shakes.

Since I assume the two problems can be remedied with the same fix, I thought I would ask what I can do.  The pen fills like a champ.  The problem is the blurping.

I have pulled the nib and feed and reseated it, and it acts exactly the same.  Before I get too drastic, I thought I would check in here.

Thanks!

a couple of posibilities come to mind.

The first being, there may be a micro pin hole in the vac diaphram allowing it to burp/drip. When held point down with the blind cap off does it drip at a steady rate? With the blind cap off and the pen full, put the filler end in your mouth & blow. Any steady/multiple drips? If not then this may not be the culprit.

Another possible cause could be a feed/nib alignment. If you look head on at the nib (point it at your eye)...(you'll put your eye out...you'll put your eye out, I will have that Red Rider with a compass in the stock..ohb wait a sec..pens)...so uh..yeah...is the feed properly set against the bottom of the nib with no visible 'gap' between them?

The bloop that happens after you have been writing for a while does indeed sound like hand warmth/ink expansion to me. I think the filling trick may help to clear up some of that.

When filling, after you pump it for the last time, keep the plunger depressed, lift it from the ink and then release. It will help to clear the feed of the ink flood & may help some.

There is something else about the feed breather tube relationship thats trying to tickel my memory as well, but it must be on a callous or something because it's just not coming to the surface.

I hope this helps some.
