His Nibs.com update -- Back in the saddle

Hello all,

Sorry for the delay since the last newsletter update. As
many of you know, my wife Teresa's oldest brother
passed away about a month ago, and we spent some
time in Ohio with her family. My mother just passed
away this past Saturday, February 28th -- so it's been
a rather rough start to the new year. I'm happy to share
a recent article on my mom. She had a very interesting,
and very full life: http://phiggy.blogspot.com/. It's
toward the bottom of the page. Please understand
if my replies to emails are delayed through the course
of the next two weeks as I attend to family and
prepare for her memorial service.

Being away I missed offering the
Monteverde DIVA Ruby Red retractable ballpoint
special for Valentine's Day. With the free leather
compact that's included, it makes for a neat gift for
a birthday, anniversary or upcoming Mother's Day.

Speaking of Monteverde, I have only two of the Mega
fountain pen/ink*ball limited edition pens left in stock.
These beautiful rosewood writing instruments have
been a great addition to the Mega line.

New from Huashilai in China is a model I've called the
Nebula. It surprised me at the recent
Philadelphia Pen Show, as it outsold its more vibrant
brethren, the Tiger Eye and Globular
Cluster.

Recalling my oft-forgotten 'note-to-self' to mention
something on the website that's gotten somewhat lost
as the site has expanded, I reintroduce the
Monteverde Artista magnetic deskpen (available as a
ballpoint, rollerball or fineliner). This one was fairly
easy for me to remember...I use one on my desk daily!

I was made aware recently of a public interest website
that I thought I'd pass on. It's called 'Thank You
Letters' http://www.thankyouletters.co.uk/
and comes out of the U.K. If you're like me, you're
always looking for another excuse to use your pens,
but how often do we remember to write a thank you
note...not just for large events, but for small
kindnesses as well? I know that when I've received
such in the mail, it's lifted my spirits all day. This site
is something of a how-to affair, with tons of
suggestions and sample letters by various writers.
Well worth checking out.

Monteverde DIVA Ruby Red ballpoint with free leather compact

Although we missed Valentine's Day, here's a perfect
birthday, anniversary or early Mother's Day gift for that
lipstick-packing momma in your life (lipstick-packing
mommas can also purchase one for themselves)!

The gift set includes
the innovative retractable DIVA 'lipstick pen' ballpoint,
in Ruby Red, matched with a black leather compact.
The compact has room on one side for the DIVA and
on the other side for a real lipstick. Mirror included
(just to avoid confusion and prevent applying ink-to-
lips).

Mega Wood limited edition convertible fountain pen

Monteverde's first fountain pen with a 14K
gold nib is a beauty. Based on the
incredibly-successful MEGA line of pens, this
multifunction pen not only provides a
gorgeous oversized gold nib (choose between
fine, medium or broad) but also includes the
Mega Inkball rollerball tip....that allows
you to use fountain pen ink (either from the
bottle or by using international-style
cartridges such as those from Private
Reserve) in a rollerball format!

Measuring 5-7/8" capped, 7-1/2" posted and
5-5/8" with cap held aside for the fountain
pen, 6-3/4" posted and 4-7/8" with cap held
aside for the Ink*Ball. Clearly, posting is
not needed with a pen this size. In fact, I
wouldn't recommend it, as I wouldn't want to
risk the wood becoming marred.

Size aside, what one first notices is just
the sheer beauty of this limited edition pen
(only 300 are being produced). The rich
rosewood, with gold furniture, is very
pleasing to behold....and holding it brings
the warmth of natural wood.

Huashilai Nebula fountain pen

The third entry in the Huashilai 3000-series of pens, is
a bit more low-key and subtle than the others. There's
an underlying pearlescense in light brown and gray,
with a few stands of white shot through the cap (each
cap is different and unique).

Monteverde Artista magnetic desk pen (BP, RB or FL)

There are certain items that belong on every desk.
Some are just for beauty, some are for pure function,
but only a few accomplish both as well as the new
sleek Monteverde Desk Pen Set. The pen itself
measures 5-1/2" and is extremely comfortable to use.
In its desk stand, it measures an even 6".

The Monteverde pen stand has been formed from a
single block of aluminum. The smooth well-balanced
aluminum pen fits perfectly and is held in place by a
series of hidden magnets. Together the shapes and
colors compliment each other to make a design
statement that writes as good as it looks.

The Monteverde Desk Pen Set is Available in Ballpoint,
Rollerball or Fineliner. All sets include additional
refills in dynamic colors so you can change your ink
color to match your mood.

On the blog...The Curse of Cursive

Some of you will have seen my post of this article from
Newsweek on the pen discussion boards, where it
drew a lot of comment.

If you haven't read it yet, take a look (it's one of my
February 15th entries, along with an earlier
Newsweek article on the mental benefits of writing by
hand).

Norman,

I'm very sorry to hear about your mother.

Our thoughts are with you.
