All -- I managed to score of couple of J models with AAA logos on the barrel (I'm a sucker for that kinda thing, pics in a couple of days) -- sadly, both are a bit rougher than described on the auction site, but the prices were low enough that I don't feel misused . . . .
Both have cap jewels that are raised enough from the cap to allow the clips rotate freely, though the jewels themselves don't move --
I know I can substitute any black J cap, but if there's a way to tighten up the jewel/cap interface, that's be great . . . .
The early J jewels were threadded. If your lucky they will just screw back down. If they arent threadded, you can do a quick fix with a tiny drop of super glue gel under the clip then another under the jewel to hold everything down.

Sir -- thanks for the reply -- it's not a transitional, which means no threads on the jewel (I was holding my breath while checking, and crossing fingers, too!).
I"m considering removing the cap liner and seeing if I can't seat the jewel using my 5-ton hydraulic press (joing, really) . . . . I may just remove the liner and see if I can't gently seat the jewel just a hair (which is really all it needs) . . .
I hate to glue to poor dear, but am willing to do so, if it comes to that.
THanks again, and enjoy the New Year celebration, no matter it's form!
I'd suggest a bit of clear mono-fish line, fish knot it and clip tight, and melt the knot with a hot needle to the under top of the clip....That way when you fianlly get around to reparing it properly, it can be done, with no big SUPER GLUE problem.
you might also try using a piece of wide rubber band to get some grip on the surface of the jewel. As well using a hair dryer to heat it up if someone else used a sealant on the thread- I twisted off a Vac jewel because the last person had glued the threads!
