HisNibs.com update --
Rosewood Mega & Chinese horses

Hi everyone,

The newest member of the Monteverde Mega
family is quite a departure. It's a limited
edition....it's a Mega Ink*Ball and a
fountain pen (with Monteverde's first 14K
gold nib)...and it's fashioned from beautiful
rosewood!

Our newest import from China is the Baoer
Eight Horses pen (even if I can only find six
of them on the barrel).

Both the Hero Victorian and the Jinhao
Evening Stripes pens have come back in stock,
although I'm running low again after filling
all those pen orders requested on the
waiting list.

TECHLifePost, a neat online tech magazine,
posted a focus piece on His Nibs.com and
fountain pens in the world of technology.

sword.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all!

Monteverde MEGA LE Rosewood

Note: As I write this, the pens are just
arriving at Monteverde, so I don't have any
in stock. When ordering, please specify the
nib size, fine, medium or broad, and whether
you'd like the pen dropped-shipped directly
to you from Monteverde, or would prefer a
detour to me first, so that I can do my usual
nib inspection and tweaking -- if it proves
necessary.

Monteverde's first fountain pen with a 14K
gold nib is a beauty. Based on the
incredibly-successful MEGA line of pens, this
multifunction pen not only provides a
gorgeous oversized gold nib (choose between
fine, medium or broad) but also includes the
Mega Ink*Ball rollerball tip....that allows
you to use fountain pen ink (either from the
bottle or by using international-style
cartridges such as those from Private
Reserve) in a rollerball format!

Capped, this Mega comes in as the
most....mega...Mega! It actually noses out
the original black Mega and Nabu Megas in length.

Baoer Eight Horses

All right, let me clear this up from the
beginning. There are only six horses depicted
on the barrel of each pen (as far as my eyes
can tell) -- you'll just have to get both
versions to get the full quota -- with a few
to spare. However, the depiction -- and the
Chinese characters -- refers to the tradition
of giving a scroll or painting of eight
horses to a friend as a blessing for a
prominent life or career. The number eight is
considered to be the most fortuitous or lucky
number among the Chinese, and it symbolizes
wealth and success. As one source says:
"Running horses are full of energy and
encouraging spirit, inspiring people to work
hard and pursue their own goals."

Hero Victorian back in stock

I've been on one of my periodic Sherlock
Holmes and Victorian era kicks recently --
both books and videos -- and here's a pen
that would fit right in. It's the kind of pen
design that I envision someone in the British
aristocracy using in replying to a royal
invitation.

Jinhao Evening Stripes back in stock

I thought of calling this the 'Big Purple
Torpedo'...but then I calmed down. Measuring
5-7/8" capped, 5-1/8" cap aside, and a full
6-1/2" with cap posted...this is a large pen.
With its girth and lacquer-over-brass
construction, posting the cap is not
something that comes naturally with this pen.
It will post, but wasn't really designed with
that in mind, as the barrel end primarily
rests on the cap threads, not a conventional
inner cap.

Gary Blehm may be familiar to some of you as
the artist who pens the 'Penmen' cartoons.

I spent some time with Gary Blehm at the New
York Pen Show this year. I've followed his
cartoons for years and was happy to receive
one of his personalized Penmen sketches (my
character was holding a table tennis racket).

Here's Gary's latest animation!
