What is the best way to remove ink stains on cap threads, section threads, etc.?

I've heard of some gear called Simichrome, or similar, which is supposed to get old ink and grime off your pens.  I presume you could apply it with a toothbrush to the threads.  This is based purely on my novice type research.  Dennis may have better methods.

Yep,simichrome is liquid gold. (or rather paste). It's a superb cleaner that not too abrasive.

Another product to try is inknix. It works GREAT on getting ink off of your hands. I don't know how it will work on barrel threads but I don't see why it wouldnt do the job.

Either one should work well, the toothbrush idea is a great one & should get everything out of the threads.

Don't forget to use your best toothbrush for the job.....that way you can tell us if simichrome or inknix is a good teeth whitener as well biggrin

No can't use your best toothbrush those cleaning stuff make it taste terrible. I only used my wife's toothbrush, but she left me. Now I have to use an old one until I can get a girlfriend.

Actually a motorized toothbrush works very well and saves a lot of trouble.

Any ladies out there interested in a relationship please contact me. Please enclose a photo of your toothbrush.

Another option for removing ink stains is Reduran

I learned of this stuff while working for a company that made non-contact ink jet printers (read, the maching that print "best used by dates" on food products and those annoying bar codes on your mail . . . . .

It's tough enough to remove leather dye from your mitts, while leaving your skin intact -- really, great stuff

Haven't tried Reduran but recently had excellent success using Amodex, a soap-based product.

All that Glitters is not Blue.
Thanks for the tip about ink nix, and Reduran.

Id bought a box of spare parts and found at least one of the blue pens had been soaked in ink. It had been such a vivid blue. I dont know my inks but the first thing that came to mind was that Boston Bay Blue, that Id heard of but never want to see.

Last night I ran that pen through a ten, 3 minute cycles of my ultra sonic cleaner and it was slowly getting the ink out.
Had not someone put the cap on another barrel and that stained it, Id been fat, dumb, and very happy, and just waxed it.

Clark Kent, Esquire sat in a locked room, pouring Boston Bay Blue over faded blue Vintage fountain pens. None who knew the mild mannered man, had ever heard him chuckle, or their hackles would have risen.

Yep, that other shiny blue gets ultra-soniced, too.

Seriously though its good to see someone here from AUS.

As a FPC forum newbie I have a 2 ink stain problems.

1.
Purchased a beautiful Orange Parker Doufold Junior about 2 months back and went to use it last week and somehow no a drop of ink has stained the orange rubber about halfway up the barrel!  One asks how????

The ink is Sailor Gentle Blue.

I have tried water [sparingly as I heard it can damage the rubber colour] and mild soap to no avail.

I presume it will require a gentle polish like Simichrome to get it off.  So I ordered some from the US.  Also ordered some Amodex from a local distributor.  I guess I will try the Amodex first then try the Simichrome if that does not work.

Obviously I do not want to finish up with a bright bleached spot on my barrel so, if there are any suggestions I would appreciate them.

2.
In a similar vein I have a Wahl/Eversharp No9637 Gold filled mini pen with the Grecian Border design[beautiful] and the ink has leaked into the cap and around the section staining the gold.

I presume an abrasive cleaner like Simichrome is out of the question?disbelief

Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the community!!

Those stains shouldnt be a problem at all. When the simchrome arrives, a little bit on a soft polishing cloth should make the duofold shine & take care of the stain.

Thw Wahl is even easier. Take it to the kitchen sink & slightly warm water, just rinse out the cap & swab with your choice of a paper towell/mini bottle brush or cotton swabs. Dry well when your fnished. Then rinse of the section the same way, dry & with a loupe/magnifier check for section cracks/the source of the leak.

Simchrome is perfect for metal pens, just dont 'power scrub' them. A light buff is all they generally need.
