Invisible fountain pen #2
Permalink Closed

I held another of my invisible bid blind auctions in ebay. This is a copy of the auction page.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've gotten a lot of emails asking when I was going to host another mystery pen auction. The first one was a lot of fun & generated a lot of interesting talk on a couple of FP message Boards. Well gang, I think it's time for another one.

For those of you who missed this the first time I'll leave the opening write up from the first time around.

Ok, I'm going to try something very different in this auction, I'm just curious to see if there are any adventurous souls crazy enough to try this. The way this one works is, your bidding blind on a quality, vintage, restored and write ready fountain pen of my choosing.  For the benefit of those who don't know, bidding blind in this case means you don't know what the pen is until you open the package. Personally I would love to see another seller do this, I'd really dig opening up a mystery pen package. I know a lot of you are skeptical, but look at my feedback and past sales. I offer up great vintage fountain pens that my buyers seem to love.

 What you are bidding on:

I'm making this auction even more juicy than the first one....

This time around your not bidding on 1 pen, not 2 but 3 restored vintage fountain pens from the same Manufacturer. All of the pens are from the same model family and manufactured in the 1930's.

The pens are in the range of 4"-4 7/8" capped, 4 1/2-5 3/4" capped and 3/8"-9/16" od at the cap band. I can't give the exact size or it could give away what they are. This model is notorious for showing up with missing or broken clips. I've had these for pushing 2 years now and just got tired of trying to source clips for them. Sooo, what I did one night was to mix up a batch of black celluloid and filled the tops of the cap in, let it cure and shaped them. (the pic was shot before I gave them the final buffing, so they do look better than shown). I had a stray ring top & dropped it in one of them. The other 2 are 'clipless' models now & look just fine. I'm not worried about 'destroying' any serious collector value here, these were good mid range pens in their day & their condition was usergrade. So I'm ok with the modifications in the end. The nibs, all are 14K and medium. The similarities end there. One is a non original (but still a big 4 manufacturer) rigid replacement, one is a semiflex & flexes to a fat broad, (I said to, not like...lol) the last is a flexible medium that flexes to a BB. All are on the moist writing side of things with out being a fire hose because thats how I enjoy my pens. If they are too wet for you, send them back to me & I'll dry them up for you. I'm going to show a pic of the very tops of the pens so you can see what I was talking about. Take any clues you can from it because thats all you get...lol.

The conditions are all usergrade. A bit of brassing here & there. One pen is missing the super thin cap band. Just looks like an engraved line now. The cap on the middle pen above has started to crystalize & as a result there is a visible crack line around the upper mid point. I've chemically welded & stabilized it so no worries there. It's just an aesthetic issue now. I put all 3 of these up together because I've come to look at them as a mini collection/trio (because they were sort of 'born' on the same day & all...lol) I also like the idea of having different nibs in the same pen model/style.

I promise you, my loyal bidders, I won't stick you with a crappy No Name School pen w/ a dried up cartridge, a sub 4th tier ultra junker or a desk pen and no base...(that would just suck). You WILL get a great classic vintage fountain pen from one of the "big 4" US manufacturers.

After the auction closes I will post a thread on my FP message board http://thefountainpencommunity.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=111780 under the  BUY,SELL,TRADE category in the EBAY SALES forum. With pics of what the pen is.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And the pens Revealed are:

2 Waterman 3V and 1 earlier 52 1/2V in the same model/body size. Made in the mid 30's all 3 are awesome writers.

I hope you enjoy them Deon!
