Right on. I love Parker 45's. Is yours all blue or does it have a metal cap? Nib size & material? Enquiring minds want to know...lol.

IMHO they are as rock solid reliable as a 51, Esterbrook or even the lowly Sheaffer School Pen. I love the fact bthat these are so incredibly easy to clean up and get back to write ready condition.

One of my favorite pens in my collection is a franken 45 I picked up in a lot out of ebay a little while back. It's a garden variety grey barrel with a steel nib that i reground to a Broad cursive italic, the odd ball part of it is it's wearing a Lustraloy cap from a 61. The REALLY strange part of it is the cap is slightly smaller than a standard 61 cap and fits the 45 like it was made for it. The one thing I'm not wild about is the style of clip they used on these. the "fat" arrow. I like the lustraloy of the 61 cap with the thin long shaft clip better. I'll snap some pics soon & post them here.

This thing is totally awesome, picked it up for 22.50.  I am not sure of the nib size but it looks alot like a medium though.  Can't wait to get it in and break it in Wesley style, know what I mean.

Awesome. Thats one of my all time favorite color combinations. I have always thought a black barrel & steel/silver cap is a very elegant & classic look that you can take anywhere & not be ashamed to whip it out.

$22.50 is a decent price for these. They were discontinude by parker a year or 2 ago & the market (ebay) is starting to get flooded with them. I'd LOVE to see these in the $10-15 range, but doubt that will happen anytime soon. Regardless, it's a solid pen that will serve you well for years.

Enjoy!
Dennis

I'll bet it's juat as sweet as anyother 45 out there. I don't remember meeting one that wasn't a sweet writer.

I've always liked the silver/black look. Just so classy in my eyes.

Sorry that I haven't been on here in a while, I have been moving and all the stuff that every human being hates to do during that time.  LOL.
This pen is really sweet.  There isn't a scratch on the thing, in fact it looks like it just came off the factory line.  It is really smooth writer with I would say probably 6.5/10 ink line.  which is plenty for me as a student.  The pen is great, I love it.

To be honest I have only been into fountain pens about 5 months and I don't know.  Dennis would be the one to ask, (no offense to anyone else on the board).  I would like to know that myself.

45 nibs come in steel, gp, 10K and 14K. The gp nibs are fairly easy to spot, they just dont have the same lustre as a 10 or 14K nib does after a good polish. Some of the gold nibs are marked, but a lot of them I see just arent marked at all.

Kind of vague I know, but thats about the best I can do right now after the BBQ & revelry of last night...lol. woo-eee what a shindig.

IMHO, as long as it flows well & writes a nice smooth line I don't care what material the nib is.

I have my 45 flighter inked up today. The broad steel stub (3:1 line ratio) writes like a dream & the Nodlers Midnight looks soo nice coming from this pen.
