INVISIBLE Vintage Fountain Pen In eBay
Permalink Closed

I'm having a lot of fun with this auction.

After the auction is over I'll post full pics of the pen so everyone can see what it is.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=320261082537

From the auction description:

Ok, I'm going to try something very different in this auction, I'm just curious to see if there are any adventurous souls crazy enough to try this. The way this one works is, your bidding blind on a quality, vintage, restored and write ready fountain pen of my choosing.  For the benefit of those who don't know, bidding blind in this case means you don't know what the pen is until you open the package. Personally I would love to see another seller do this, I'd really dig opening up a mystery pen package. I know a lot of you are skeptical, but look at my feedback and past sales. I offer up great vintage fountain pens that my buyers seem to love.

 What you are bidding on:

The pen is in the 5" -5 1/2" capped, 6" - 6 1/2" posted, 7/16"-1/2" at the cap band size range. (I don't want to give the exact measurements & give away the surprize) It does not have a 14K nib, but I assure you that does NOT matter with this pen. The smooth rigid nib is a generous medium/thinner broad with good flow 5.75/10.  It's a moist but not wet writer. The imprint is weaker but still present. Black barrel with a lined pattern on the silver colored cap. The condition is on par with all of the other vintage pens I've sold here in ebay. Good-Very Good condition.

I promise you, my loyal bidders, I won't stick you with a crappy No Name School pen w/ a dried up cartridge, a sub 4th tier ultra junker or a desk pen and no base...(that would just suck). You WILL get a great vintage fountain pen from one of the "big 4" US manufacturers and I must say....it's one hellu'va nice writer. It's been in my personal collection for pushing 5 years now & has never once let me down (that is if I can remember to check that it's got ink in it before I leave the house..... come on, you know you've done it too)

haven't got the question yet, but there are no engravings or personalizations on the pen.

I was doing a bit more research on the pen & I was reminded that the nib is a replacement for the original 14K. The non 14K nib is from a pen in the same model family as the mystery pen. To be 100% honest, most folks ("general" users) wouldn't know it was the wrong nib for this particular pen, it's one of those bits of minutae that a collector would focus on.  If you take my meaning.

All I ask is that the winner mention what the pen is in their feedback so everyone will have the chance to know.

What 'cha think, lets have some fun and see what happens!

D.

I'm shootin' from the hip here so any thoughts, comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

We have a winner!!

I'd like to thank WATCHKING for taking a chance and bidding blind on my auction. I know this was an unusual auction but I think everyone had fun. I know I did.

Here is the mystery pen in question. A mid 50's Sheaffer Snorkel Sentinel with a very nice PDAG nib. Not a bad buy at all for $32.00 plus shipping in my book.

I hope you enjoy it Watchking! Thanks for playing. i'll most likely be doing another before too long. Keep your eyes peeled.

Dennis
