Why didnt I have my camera with me!
Permalink Closed

Yesterday morning my wife Venus and I went out to breakfast. On our way home, traveling down Hwy 54 we noticed a Jeep Cherokee on the side of the road mising the front left tire. The thing that caught my eye the most was the wheel rotor was sitting directly on the ground. Thinking to myself, man thats not too smart, he's going to really mess his Jeep up trying to change a tire like that.

When we turned around the next bend in the road a hundred yards or so poast the Jeep I saw something moving in the road further down the hill. (from where the jeep sat to the bottom of the hill was more than 3/4 of a mile) I pulled up to within 10 yards or so to see what this thing was. It turns out it was the guys tire bouncing down the road ricocheting off of the highway dividers! We followed behind it for a minute until it finally managed to bounce over the divider and ended up in the grass on the side of the road.

I pulled over, tossed the tire in my trunk & took it back up to the Jeep. The driver was of course grateful. He told me that he'd just been to "Big O Tires" for an inspection. Looks like they forgot to replace his lug nuts when they replaced the tire! weirdface.gif

I really really wish I'd had my camrea on me at the time. Seeing this big truck tire bouncing down the middle of the highway was pretty strange.

I think Big O Tires owes him SOMETHING. New tires, new house... He was just plain lucky to have survived.

I agree. It looked like his rotor was thrashed. There was a "scratch" on the road behind his jeep that was over 100' long. he must have been moving pretty fast when it came off. The speed limit on that stretch is 70 mph.

I gave him my business card & told him to contact me if he needed a statement for the insurance or???

The guy is VERY lucky he didn't flip over or worse. Someone was looking out for him yesterday.
