Is this the original nib on a Cross Century 2000?
Permalink Closed

Any quick help with a question I have on a new pen acquisition will be greatly appreciated!

Here is a photo of the Medium nib on the NOS Cross Century 2000 I just received. To my surprise, it looks just like the recent made in China nibs (Townsend) I bought from Cross several months ago.

Here is a photo of the nib from the Montgomery Pens website (where I bought the pen). It looks exactly like the nib on my pen above.

If this is the nib that came with the Century 2000 originally, then I am quite happy. If it is a substitution I was not told about, then I don't want the pen without the original nib.

My question: CAN ANYONE POST A PIC OF A CROSS CENTURY 2000 NIB AS IT ORIGINALLY CAME FROM CROSS? Google and EBay offer no verifiable photos.

If mine is indeed the original spec nib, then all is well and satisfactory. If not, I need to return the pen within the scant 7 day return period offered by the vendor.

Thanks!

Hubert

Apologies to all...Please ignore this thread.

I needed to do more research before I posted this originally, because...

After digging through some boxes of my infrequently used pens, I found another Century 2000 bought several years ago (and had forgotten about), and it is the same nib on both pens. My concerns about the nib are unfounded.

All I need to do is give it a test and start writing.

Hubert

Glad to hear that it was the correct nib, Hubert!

I was assuming the nib was replaced myself!!

Frank,

Actually, I still don't know who the nib manufacturer is or the country of origin, but it is identical to one I bought in 2006, so I'm going to be foolish and assume it is correct. Info on Cross FPs is so sparse and sketchy, and the 2000 is from the firm's transition period from all US to global production, it's likely that this nib would be the one used on the pen. Cross does make it hard to verify their writing instruments. and with new ownership, I'm still waiting to see what that may bring.

Still need to test it out this weekend, so there's some potential joy in all this!

The only Montblanc I own is a rollerball, so I can't really make a valid comparison with a Chinese-manufactured Cross nib. But the Cross nibs I have are all smooth and somewhat wet writers, and that's right in my sweet spot of preference for enjoyable writing. But alas, the majority of my work is done on the PC ...
