These Sheaffer Crest BP reissues just struck me when I viewed them at Peyton Street Pens, so over the past couple months, I ordered the gold/black pen first, and then the gold/red model this month. They may not be pretty, but they have a distinct "1940's style" while being a "modern" (1992, according to Teri @ Peyton Street) writer, which I prefer.
There is an excellent overview of the Crest at Penhero.com: http://penhero.com/PenGallery/Sheaffer/SheafferCrestModern.htm. This gives a wonderful description of the FP, and the BPs are also of very nice construction. My red pen does have some pitting on the gold-plated cap, but I can live with that.
Fresh refills were included, but I did not open either pen yet, since I need to check how to open them correctly, and no directions were included. They are nice refills, whatever they may be. Since the red pen has the cosmetic flaws, I'll likely use that while saving the black pen for "whatever".
I've bought a few nice pens from Teri @ Peyton Street Pens. Excellent pens, shipping and customer service.
