Montblanc 142

Hi all,

A friend of mine gave me a Montblanc 142... as a gift!!! It might be not the most expensive MB, but it is certainly my first Meisterstück.

Though it needs some polishing, minor nib work (tine alignment and maybe some micromesh), and it has a bent part in the nib shoulder (doesn't seem to be affecting behaviour anyway); all expensive things seem to be OK (piston, no leaks whatsoever, tipping), and I am already using the pen after a fast flushing (was clogged with old ink).

Just my point of view, up to now:
1- Looks small. I don't like to use the pens posted, as it generally ends up with scratches on body, but this one looks kind of smaller than what I would use for continuous writing.
2- Instead of "Meisterstück", as I have always seen in the web, this is translated into the English "Masterpiece"
3- Piston mechanism is wonderful, very smooth and precise. I like it more than what I do with the Pelikan M400 I own, which is a lot to be said.
4- Ink window (brown striped) is kind of dark. This might improve after more flushing, though.

    Rgds.

WOW!

Either I am a very lucky guy or my pen is worth way less than that...

Thanks for sharing.

I like posting pens. Only my Lamy Persona and perhaps my Townsend are too heavy to post, but I can if I wish, in both pens click in so nice when posted.

I got a MB 234 1/2 Deluxe 1952-55. A great...Semi flex KOB nib, and posted it is perhaps my best balanced pen. It has the old masterpiece clip and a "nicer" cap ring, than them...ordinary....234 1/2's......got to have that nose in the air ya know. So mine is a MB 1 1/2 tier pen.
Un-posted it is a so what pen, out side the nib.

Eventually I will have to go down to a B&M and check out the modern 146 & 149.
Then I have to check out the old shorter 146....but even with out the real fancy nib; for writing those two pens got a long way to beat my 234 1/2.

the end number is the size of the nib, 4 1/2 like 234 1/2 or 334 1/2. The 2xx is MB second tier, and 3xx MB third tier, as some one was ever so nice to point out to me with his hat pen. How ever....mine is Deluxe.....I can look down my nose when no pen of importance is around.

You should not worry about minor marring that can be wiped of with a tad of Semichrome polish after a while.

Try the pen posted, then it will not be so small. The object is to have a balanced pen with a great nib...and I'd not worry about use marks.

A number of your pens might well balance better posted...give it a try.
