When the pen is capped, the nib is safe & sound. It's the uncapped nib drops to worry about. The pen is obviously much heavier than something in a 'normal' size & will mangle a nib without thinking about it.

Cool Demo Dennis!
That's one tough Pen!

Not to mention impervious to stains from what I've been reading at Pentrace!
Not even BSB can damage a Savage!

I had a quasi challenge about how thin can i make a pen & still have the 8ml capacity dropped on me a few days ago & came up with this.

Ok so these are really quick & dirty one handed freehand shots off of the keyboard. Please forgive the quality.

I had some carbon fiber tubing that a supplier had sent me samples of a while back. Stumbled across them again while cleaning, had my eureka moment * got busy. I first had to bore/ream them out to juuust fit the ink vial. Threaded one on the inside for the section & one external for the end cap. Also threaded the cap in and out as well, but the section wasn't quite long enough to drop a couple of threads o, so it's a semi slip cap at the moment. Had a couple of delrin stubs left over from my earlier pens, bored & threaded a pair for end caps. Sent it to the drill press for some ink windows & called it a win until I can get more tubing. It's a comfortable pen, MUCH lighter than the others I've made & as always a smooooooth wet writer. Just like I like 'em.

BTW, nonremovable vial.

Getting closer to something for those with smaller hands.

Good work, Dennis! What about one with a long, slender section and the vial (with its fatter barrel) behind/above the web of your thumb? Like a long "jug pen." It would add even more ink capacity (in the section) as well.

DWL, I am anxious to see your pens as well! You mentioned leather ...... do you suppose you might have an interest in Shark Leather for something like this? I know someone who has a little experience in tanning and processing shark leather...... I'm sure the info would be forthcoming to and from a travelling man.

Sadly the Savage pen co died on the vine. I ran into some serious personal problems and had to sell all of my equipment. The dream is still there but the ability to bring it to fruition isn't. I hope to one day be able to revive this one and make my own line of pens.

Tell me about it man. Nothing like having your dream smashed before your eyes with the shards stomped & scattered to the 4 winds.

8 months since I had to shelf the Savage Pens dream. Today I got to pull it back off the shelf and dust it off with renewed hope for a future. I had a meeting with a master machinist willing to partner up with me to bring my dream to light. He drove 4 hours to meet with me & hear what I had to share. To say it was a productive conversation is a huge understatement. I saw examples of his work & I'm blown away. He left with several hard rubber rods & all of the fixins to make a couple of my pens. He said I should see something in a week or so. I'm STOKED to see what he delivers. I'm REALLY trying not to get my hopes up as he's the 3rd machinist I've talked to about this, but also the most promising. Stay tuned my friends.
