I like my Heroes

I just gave away my 329 and I'm kind of kicking myself for it! I wasn't using it, but now I miss it. It's gone on to a good home so I'm glad, though. Maybe this is an opportunity to try out the 366.

I actually like the 366 better than the Parker Lady hooded pen I once had. To me, it wrote smoother.

That's all that really matters to me. I had a few Heroes that were smoother than the Parkers they were ripping off, too.

Did that pen not come with the aluminum sac shield/squeezer, or have you removed it (I take mine off to flush or fill, but put it back)?

�No, no, it comes that way!� This is what sold me on the pen: the total cuteness of that little bulb-filler.

It's a small pen like a Parker Lady, maybe a bit smaller.� I got them from Speerbob and at first I was leery of getting so many at once but am SO glad I did.

Ah. I see it now; the sac is only half of the visible interior part. Other than the filler and the lack of an inlay on the hood, it's identical to the 329 old style. Probably fills easier, too.

I don't have one of those Parkers for comparison, but the 366 is a kick to fill, watching the ink squirt into that little bulb.

It has a clear clutch ring to show ink supply, too.

i have a couple of wing sungs with just the bulb to fill them. they seem to hold a lot of ink for being so small!!

I like Heros too. I think they are underrated and get lost in the shuffle of other big name brands. Another good is Jinaho, good quality, hefty well balnced. Todays modern pens are out my reach cost wise. I do not think you need to spen big bucks to get a quality fountain pen. I find no shame in owning a Hero or Jinaho.

+1 here. Love my Heros. I also like to look through Isellpens.com selection of Heros, they are totally awesome. Where else one can find a pen with a gold nib under $20?

I have two Hero 616. One is a Jumbo bought from isellpens for about $5.00, the other is the standard bought off eBay. The jumbo is just great, other than the stiffness of the nib taking a bit of getting used to, it fills great and writes smooth. With such a fine nib, it seems to write endlessly on one filling. The standard 616 is a different kettle of fish altogether. It will not fill at all. The best I have managed to do is fill the nib section. No matter how much I squeeze, I cannot get ink into the sac. I have tried removing the cheap and flimsy aluminium cover and squeezing the sac directly to no avail. It writes pretty well with the little bit of ink I can get into it, but I cannot take it out of the house, because I can never guarantee that it has enough ink in it.

A lot of the Chinese-made squeeze fillers work best if you squeeze and release rapidly and repeatedly, rather than using the normal squeeze-release-pause method. They also don't seem to like inks with a lot of surfactants in them, such as most Noodlers inks.

Well that might explain it. I will have to beg my daughter to let me at her supplies of Herbin inks then. It does not explain why the Jumbo works so well with HoD though.
