Very cool! It's good to see another retractable pen like this. I LOVE my Namiki VP. I don' know how the super straight barrel/section would feel though. I like some sort of curves on my pen. I think this is going to be one of those i have to hold & use it before I can say yea or nay. But just on the visuals & general aesthetic I like it.
Whjats the price tag on this kid look like?

Between $200 and 300 in the US; there have been a few in-hand photos posted at FPN recently, and the thing looks uncomfortably fat. At least someone from Lamy USA clarified that the section and feed are the same as on the Safari/Vista/Al-Star and the nibs will interchange, though the one on the D3 is much prettier than the SS nibs on the other pens.
I sure hope the nib is at least gold for that price point. I have always liked the vista family but find them too light weight for me to use with any regularity. If this is the same size & has the same nib/feel as they do, but with more weight, I may be in. I will have to wait until some hit the 2ndary market. I've never been a fan of paying full retail..lol

I agree that it is a beautiful pen, but it is twice the price of the Studio that has the same gold nib. The feature is great, but it is not new to Lamy. My Swift RB pen retracts in the same manner and I have had my pen over 20 years! If they wanted to compete with the VP, they should have been closer in price. This pen should not be any more than $150.

Kinda boring looking, don't ya think? I suppose it's a case of function over form, or form because of function..
I don't know about the rest of you but the pens I have and the pens I'll buy are all esthetically pleasing to my own eye. I've got to wonder how anyone could find the Dialog a handsome pen.
Perhaps it would be better to withhold judgement until it's in hand, as you say, Frank..
Well, sure the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but as for boring... I consider "boring" a pen which is similar to 1000 others and for all the benchmarks this one is damn original. Not boring!
If you look at the Dialog 1 and 2 it is a progression and Bauhaus to the extreme.
The whole concept of the Dialog series is to select a famous designer and to give him blank paper to desing a writing instrument. Each time the designer is different.
There is not connection in design between the Dialog series.
I prefer the basic shape of the Vanishing Point/Decimo/Capless, and have friends who swear it's the best pen they own, but the various finishes just leave me cold.
