Not only do you get to see great pens, but you also get to see/meet great people! I was at the show from roughly 11:00 to 5:00 yesterday (8/8/09) at the first public day at the show. There was not enough room for all the vendors! They were in the lobby of the hotel as well as both ballrooms!
I got to test pens from Patrick Chu (Loiminchay), among others. I got to hold the infamous "Nine Dragons" FP from him. This pen is $250,000, I did not dare to ink it! I also saw Rick Propas, and got to see his Pel 75th Anniversary Demo!
I also got to try pens from Steve Braun (allwritenow), and Aaron Svabik of Pentiques. Aaron has his own line of pens now, and they are terrific writers! Aaron also repaired/restored two Eversharps that I bought to have work done. Aaron does fantastic work, and has repaired pens for me in the past.
I also saw the Laban pen rep for the US, Jerry Yeh, whom I purchased a pen from the Philly show two years ago. The wood pen I got has started to crack from stress in the wood at the metal section. He told me to send to him, as it would be repaired/replaced.
I also got to see some of the well known people at these shows, including David I, Ron Zorn, and Richard Binder. I have gone to Ron Z. for work in the past, but his waiting list has become increasingly larger in the past couple of shows. You need to see him, and do that first if you insist on repairs from him.
I made one pen purchase at this show, I got the Pilot M-90 Anniversary edition from Fountain Pen Hospital (FPH). It is always hard to beat an FPH deal, and they did not fail even on this hard to get reissue model! I also got accessories from Swisher, including a replacement nib for my Lamy Safari.
I highly recommend this show!
