J Herbin Bleu Azur (Light Blue) Ink Review

Paper-Mead College Ruled white memo pad

Pen- Hero 5028 (Calligraphy) with 1.1 Bold Nib

This is J Herbins Bleu Azur, a light blue (sky Blue) ink that is available in both cartridges and Herbins famous bottle with lip for pen resting. This is part of the free ink for review that The Community was offered by Karen Doherty, VP of Marketing with Exaclair Ink (J. Herbin Inks).

This ink does dry rather quickly. There was minimal smudging after 10 seconds. After one minute, the ink was completely dry. Even a water test, which involved smearing the paper with a paper towel, did not allow this ink to smear even after 30 seconds.

This ink does not bleed through the paper used, and feathering was minimal from the paper towel test. Perhaps the fact that this ink is light prevents it from bleeding through. I found the shading to be very nice, but the ink is light, and does better on white paper with a bolder nib.

I am very big on mixing inks, and you can make a medium to dark blue by mixing this ink with black ink. The Herbin site states that Herbin inks are ph neutral and they use natural dyes. You can even purchase Herbin inks directly at jherbin.com.

Direct link provides sample swatches. This ink is similar to the swatch for comparison.

Thanks Frank. Think I'll order a few different colors and give them a try.

I often use JH's Azure. It's been a staple for me.
