J. Herbin Inks
Permalink Closed

Like I mentioned in the News forum, I got a box of 10 bottles on J. herbin inks from Karen Doherty VP of Marketing with Exaclair Ink (J. Herbin Inks) for us to sample and review.

If you would like a bottle to review simple PM me with your top 3 color choices. (inase your first choice is taken already) This give wawy is on a first come first served basis.

As usual coin is tight around the DWL household, so I have to ask for $4 US shipping and $7 international to cover the shipping costs.

The colors include:

Perle Noir - Black
Gris Nuage - Greyish
Larmes De Cassis - Looks like a lavender/purpleish color
Vert Reseda - Light Green
Blue azur - Light Blue

Claimed:
Lierre Sauvage - Dark Green (claimed by Frank)
Bleu Pervenche - Dark Blue (claimed by Jon)
Rouge Bourgogne - Red (claimed by Andy)
Lie De The - Brown (Claimed by Paul)
Poussiere De Lune (claimed by me)

When you write up your review, you can use this as a guideline. I must admit to lifting/borrowing this from Ann Finley's Ink Review thread on FPN. Why? Simply, it's the best set of ink review guidelines I've seen to date.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pen(s) & paper used for review, as well as the ink brand & color name*
(Folks like to know how an ink will act with a fountain pen, thus the use of an FP(s) as opposed to a dip pen is preferable for reviews.)
A photo/scan if possible is most helpful...
Does the ink dry quickly? (i.e. in 3 or 4 seconds if rubbed lightly with your finger)* It's helpful if you show this smear test on your review. smile.gif
Does it seem to flow particularly fast or slow? *
Does it tend to dry up in pens quickly if the cap is off for awhile?
Any start-up problems with the pen, either in a short time or if not used for a few days? *
How does it lubricate the nib? (sufficiently, or like "skating on the paper")
Is it highly saturated?
Does it feather and/or bleed through the paper? *
Does it shade? *
Is there a phenomenal difference in appearance coming from different pens?
Is it particularly sensitive to hand oils?
Is it considered archival? (pH neutral & lightfast per manufacturer)
Is it waterproof/bulletproof? *
Are there some papers that it works especially well on? Or doesn't work well on?
Are there other ink colors that you know of that are very close to this color?
Is it sold in both bottles and cartridges?
Is the bottle designed to be "user friendly" and/or does it have an ink well?
If it isn't widely available, where did you purchase it?

*At a minimum, please try to cover these points that make a review relevant for most members. Thanks!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone else is planning on mailing Karen a Thank You note, PM me and I'll forward her address along to you.

This is a terrific opportunity. Herbin has some beautiful inks, and the selection here is great.

PM sent.

Thanks for the responses guys! Like I mentioned in the PM's. I'm really interested to hear what your thoughts are on these inks. For my part I have yet to find one I dont like. Love the colors, flow charateristics and overall quality.

There are only 5 bottles left

Perle Noir - Black
Gris Nuage - Greyish
Larmes De Cassis - Looks like a lavender/purpleish color
Vert Reseda - Light Green
Blue azur - Light Blue

I'm hoping the remaining bottles will be claimed by Sunday night, so when I go to the PO next Monday I can get everything off at once.

Howdy all, sorry to take so long to get this going, but it's either been busy as hell here or I've felt like crap & haven't done anything. Feeling ok for the past couple of adys now so i plan on getting these packed up & out of here this weekend. I'm not 100% but I think there may be a bottle or 3 unclaimed. i'll look over my pm's later tonight & get a full tally of whats left & let everyone know. So I can hopefully get these off to the post office early this coming week.

PM's have been sent to the individuals who wanted/requested ink here!
DWL sent the bottles (except his two) to me.

We still should do the reviews of these inks!

UPDATE: I am still waiting to hear from those who responded to this topic about the free Herbin Ink! The above individuals have been notified.

I have heard from Andy, and he is getting his bottle!

I will have three, maybe four bottles still available.
I will keep you posted. I don't mind having that much ink, but that
will be that many more reviews I need to do!

UPDATE: I was able to provide the colors that were requested by the individuals posted above. Unclaimed bottles were given to those who paid DWL and agreed to review two inks!

I have heard from Trevor, but his choice was not sent to me.

I have three bottles left. I am keeping two myself, as I will also review two inks. The Lierre Sauvage is available. It was my original choice, but it is too light for my taste in green (It is a medium to dark green). It is 99% full, as only a converter's worth was used. It is available to the first person that PM's me, with the same agreement as above- pay $4 paypal/shipping, and do a review along the guidlines posted above.

OK! The Lierre Sauvage has been claimed!
Thanks PTJeff!

I am reviewing both the Gris Nuage, and the Bleu Azur
for my part! Thanks to all of you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation concerning this matter!
