In my ebay auctions that I place a reserve on. I clearly & plainly say what that reserve is. If the pen doesn't meet the reserve it doesn't sell.

My point of confusion is why then, with the reserve known, does someone come in and place a bid lower than the reserve. I just had 3 auctions with reserves that didn't get met, but had multiple bids on them. Do they think I'm kidding or are they hoping I'll send them a second chance offer on their low ball bid? I don't mind selling a pen for a bit less than it's worth, but come on ....less than 25% of the reserve price? I don't even think so.

WTF is wrong with these people?

Rant over.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Simple, they are typical Ebay A__hole idiot cheapskates.  That's why (and because of Ebay's fees) I no longer sell on eBay.

For all this though, there were a couple of people who did bid up.  THe 51 set went for a bit lower than I'd have estimated; I thought that would have made it to triple figures.  But the Vac pencil looks like a good outcome.

This is an older thread, and this is my first post here. I am sometimes that "cheap A__hole bidder" (not necessarily typical) who places a low ball bid since sometimes my watch list is maxed out and I want to watch another auction. Being out of work for almost 3 years means I don't have funds to bid like I want to. Sorry if it's offensive, but that's the way it goes. That's why I have so many 3rd Tier pens, mostly Wearevers, since nobody wants them and usually worst case scenario I get parts from them.

I can't play with the BIG BOYS for the most part. I have one Parker 51 and the only other big name I have collected are Sheaffers for the most part. Also a bunch of Chinese 329 and 616 and have yet to find a bad one.

Sorry, but sometimes CHEAP wins auctions.

Ralph

Sorry. I was in a really crappy mood & cash was tight back then. I pretty much just needed to vent.

BTW: Great first post! Welcome to the community.

You actually post the "Reserve" prices in your listings? Way to go, sir!!!
Wow, it drives me nuts when I see "Reserve not met" but no reserve is even listed.
Good for you, I only wish everyone posted their reserve prices instead of hiding them behind how much they "think" something might sell for or be worth.
Those Sellers suck soap, IMO, the ones that hide the least they'll take for an item.
I think they're even worse than potential buyers that bid below a "reserve" that's actually shown.
I must agree though, I don't understand why some people try to low-ball bid below the starting price, as if an offer of $1 is really going to get an item set @ $100+ as a minimum.
Can you say "D'uh!"???

I think that explains it pretty well.

I have a nasty habit of pm'ing sellers to see if we can agree on a price without having to go through the auction. Never lowball them tho!

I send back channel BIN offers all of the time. if the seller is down for it i'm ok with it & generally scoop up some decent stuff that way.
