Did watermans ever make a pen like this ?

Yes it is for real, and it seems like it went really cheap.

It was called Ripple Red or Red Ripple (I can never remember) and came in the standard size 52, the thinner 52 1/2 and the thin and shorter 52 1/2V (the V meaning it fits in your vest pocket).

I have learnt this only recently myself, but I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm off the mark a bit.
