I filled a Phileas on Wednesday with Noodler's Ottoman Rose. I've used this Phileas regularly for the past several weeks with no hassles. Most recently with Noodler's Red-Black.

I've noticed that the flow on the Ottoman Rose is very shvach. (Shvach is a Yiddish technical term that means limited, poor, weak, pale, etc.) Not a good thing and a surprise. I've not used Ottoman Rose before and was rather surprised. I've had good luck with all the other Noodler's inks I've used.

Has anyone noticed anything similar with this particualr ink? I really like the color and could do a little brass flossing to increase the flow, but I really don't want to mess up a pen I like otherwise.

Any ideas?

Andy,

I have 4 pens loaded up with that very ink. I just love the stuff! I've not noticed the poor flow charateristics you mentioned. Do you have an ultra sonic cleaner or does your dear Lady M have a jewelery cleaner you could run the nib unit through for good measure. Just about every Phileas I've known has been on the moist & flowin' side of things. It's my guess that it probably needs a good flush. At the very least soak it in a cup of h2o with a drop or 2 of liquid dish soap over night & a good rinse in the AM.

Let me know how it comes out.

Yup, I have the U.S. cleaner. I bought it for Monica "for" her jewlery but it spends far more duty time cleaning pen parts.

The strange thing is that it worked just fine prior to the Ottoman Rose when it was filled with the Red/Blak Noodlers. That ran dry so I rinsed thoroughly and filled with the O.R. Big difference so I suspect it wasn't  a clogged nib or feed unless it picked up something from the bottle.

After I write it dry I'll give it 2 rounds in the U.S. and see what happens.

Just an update with NO news.

One of the benefits of stingy flow is that the ink lasts and lasts. I'm still working on the same fill of Ottoman Rose so I haven't yet given it the US treatment or flossed or anything!

Maybe this weekend?
