HisNibs.com update --Wild Stripes & Dolcevita Piston

June 27th, 2008

It's rare for me to have two updates in such
a short period of time, but I wanted to
introduce some exciting new models from
Monteverde and Delta before leaving the
palace and raising the drawbridge (well, I
guess a vassal has to remain behind to do
that) before embarking on a short tour of the
kingdom after July 4th. I think some of you
refer to it as a vacation.

I also wanted to mention again the online
petition that will be presented to the U. S.
Postal Service at the end of August,
requesting that they consider producing a
series of stamps commemorating the fountain
pen. We'd like to get well over 1000
signatures in order to be taken seriously,
and as I write this we have fewer than 600.

So, please go to the link right above the
first photo on the
homepage http://www.hisnibs.com/
and share it with as many friends
and family as possible. What could be more
natural than celebrating the writing
instrument responsible for probably billions
of letters over more than a century...all of
which needed a stamp?

Monteverde Artista Stripes

Monteverde's expansive Artista line of
innovative pen designs continues with the
Stripes family of pens. Like the original
transparent, demonstrator Artista pens, these
are mid-sized writers -- comfortable for both
small and large hands. The fountain pen and
rollerball both measure 5" capped, and 6"
with the cap posted. The ballpoint comes in
at 5-1/2".

Using a new, exclusive Laminata
process,
specially formulated liquid acrylic resins
are poured layer-upon-layer. Each layer is
required to cure before the next layer is
added. Monteverde's exclusive Laminata
technique takes far more time compared to the
previous "Cut & Glue" method -- but the
results speak for themselves.

Once all of the acrylic layers have cured,
the Laminata acrylic slab is hand-cut,
hand-lathed, and hand-drilled. The pens are
then hand-polished to a gorgeous -- and
translucent luster.

Delta Dolcevita Piston fountain pen

Having been a great admirer -- and collector
-- of Delta's sublime Dolcevita pens, I had
two wishes for the expansion of the line. The
first wish was granted about a year ago, with
the introduction of the Dolcevita
Desk Set http://www.hisnibs.com/desk_pen.htm. The second, and longer-held
wish has just been granted with a piston
version of this iconic masterpiece.

As I write this on June 27th, I've only
received a few of the pens with
medium nibs, but I am
finalizing another order in a couple of days,
once I know the nib sizes (F, M or B) that
everyone desires. So, if I've sold out by the
time you read this, please email me to place
your order for next week's delivery.

From MSNBC, a particularly poignant video for
a number of reasons.

See the June 27th entry for the video.... - http://hisnibs.blogspot.com
