HisNibs.com update --Leonardo & Jewels
June 21st, 2008

This update offers two new brands from China
-- Classic and
Leonardo. We'll start with a
single model from each this time.

The Jinhao Plasma line of pens
have been a
real hit this Spring for HisNibs.com. Read
what customers are saying about them...as
well as the other new Chinese models recently
introduced.

Private Reserve has three new colors to
offer. Ebony Blue, Ebony
Green and Ebony Purple.

All colors of the Monteverde MEGA
ballpoints and
YAFA cartridge rollerballs are
back-in-stock
as I write this.

On the blog....a moving entry about the use
of fountain pens by Peter A. Lipson, M.D.

Classic Jewels

Yes, they're real fake jewels! I'm sure of
it. That aside aside smile.gif, these are
nice full-sized pens. They measure 5-1/4"
capped and 6" posted. Being of brass and
lacquer construction, they also have a nice
heft to them.

One's eye is next draw to the nib, which can
best be described as a semi-Triumph style,
after the nib design made famous by
Sheaffer. Another point of interest with this
light-medium steel nib is that it's totally
devoid of any markings. That's a real rarity
in the world of fountain pens.

Leonardo Silver Checks

Here's a company that almost guarantees that
you'll add several I.Q. points just from
writing with their pens. I mean, with da
Vinci staring at you from both the clip and
the nib, who wouldn't be inspired?

The is another full-sized pen, measuring
5-1/2" capped and 6" posted. It's all-metal
construction is surprisingly light.
Consequently, this is a pen that can serve
for extended writing sections without tiring
out the writer.

New Private Reserve ink colors

Private Reserve introduces three new
Ebony colors. Ebony
Blue, Ebony Green and
Ebony Purple.

These are very interesting colors. They mix
the standard colors listed with a deep, ebony
black. They're very deep and rich. See actual
ink color swatches by following the link below.

Jinhao Gray Plasma

"Norman, received the Jinhao Plasma Gray
pen today. Norm I am very impressed at the
appearance of this pen. Plus the box is a
very nice collectors item. I will use the pen
tomorrow at work. First impressions are
really off the scale for an inexpensive
fountain pen. Great job in finding this pen
company. I really want that Plasma Blue
now!!"
T. C., Springfield, VA

"I have been using the pen constantly
since yesterday, and the pen performs
magnificently. The real test was this
morning when I got to the office, after not
using the pen all night. Instant startup. I
love this pen.
Many thanks for your assistance."
B. L., New York, NY

"Hi Norman, I wanted you to know that my
pen arrived safely. It's a really nice pen
for the price; the nib is actually a true
medium (bordering on broad, actually).
Thanks, as always, for your great service and
great deals."
F.C., Chatham, NJ

Baoer Black Rectangles

"The pens arrived last night, Norman...my
daughter labeled the Mega
Mini (http://www.hisnibs.com/mega_mini.htm) the "Cutest"
fountain pen on Earth. One of the Baoers was
for a gift so I'm glad I ordered another one
for me. For that price, it looks like a very
expensive pen and its a pleasure to write
with. Thanks again."
L. H., Philippines

"Both pens write really well [referring to
the MEGA
Mini (http://www.hisnibs.com/mega_mini.htm) fountain pen]; the Baoer is a
steal. Unless you look closely, you can't
tell it apart from a Starwalker (I should
know, as I used to own one in the same
pattern). Keep those great pens coming,
Norman!
F.C., Chatham, NJ

Bookworm Yellow Filigree

"Good morning Norman. The pen arrived
yesterday. Record time! As I expected, the
Israeli customs does not stop the cheap mail
options. I was attracted by the name as I am
a book worm. The design is good. There is a
lot of thought there and the nib is
excellent. Thanks very much for giving me a
lot of pleasure."
C. S., Israel

"Mr. Haase, I received my new pen today. I
love the Book Worm and find the small flaw is
only a 'character mark'. I inked it with the
Chocolat Private Reserve from my last order,
and enjoyed making a long list with it. I am
pleased with how pretty it is and feminine it
feels in my hand, and yet looks like a fine
tool when in my husbands hand. Very pleasant
to view and a nice pen to write with.
Slightly heavy, but not awkward. Amazing
value for such a slim price."
J. F., Dallas, OR

"Norm: I was very impressed with the last
three pens that I bought from you. In fact
the Bookworm Yellow Filigree is sitting on my
desk in front of me and I use it every day.
It writes very smoothly and I love it...it is
a truly fine writing instrument and it
looks great!"
A. S., Laurel, MD

"Bookworm safely arrived yesterday. Inked
this AM. Like it! I am normally not into
"gaudy" pens, but this one "grabbed" me for
some reason. I also normally do not like
"heavy" but do if well-balanced in MY hand
and this one is."
C. H., Louisville, KY

Monteverde MEGA Ballpen

As I write this, all colors are back in stock.

"Hi Norman. Order received (sometimes the
competence of the mail system scares me).
Pen very sweet. Thanks so much. I too enjoy
fountain pens more than ballpoints - it's
just that I almost never use them. I find,
in my work, they are just not practical (nor
are rollerballs for that matter). Broad
refills certainly make using ballpoints
easier to take."
D. S., Ottawa, Canada

YAFA Cartridge Rollerball

As I write this, all colors are back in stock.

"Received my order today. The Yafas are
lots of fun! I wanted these Yafas because I
often have clients sign contracts or
agreements. Sometimes the contracts are
multi-copy. Sometimes prospective clients
want to make notes on the back of my business
card and don't have a pen handy. I've gotten
tired of people thinking I'm a prig because I
won't let them use my Nakaya or my Sailor
Maki-e- or trying to pocket it. In the Yafa I
have an extra pen I can carry with pride and
lend to clients. Thanks."
D. R., Glendale, AZ

"Hi Norman, I'll take a green one as well.
These things are nifty!"
J. M., Port Washington, NY

On the blog...

Here's a moving entry about the use of
fountain pens by Peter A. Lipson, M.D.

"I love fountain pens, but I'm far to busy
for the regular ritual of cleaning, filling,
etc. Most of my day is spent scrawling notes
or typing on a keyboard. But there is one
task for which only a fountain pen will do."

Norman,

Thanks for posting this. I'm always excited to see new lines & models I'm not familiar with. I really dig the Leonardo & the Bookworm. What sort of prices are we talking on these?

Thanks
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Yes, they're pretty neat. Those two are $20.00 and $15.00, respectively.

Regards,

Norman
