Sonnett knock off
Permalink Closed

I was prowling the bay & ran across this. Looks like a Sonnett to me with an IPG nib. I like the fact they didn't try to bill it as the real deal as a lot of these type of sellers do, but all but state that it's a fake. It's on the way in now, so i'll find out next week if it's any good or not. I generally as a rule don't buy from asian sellers. Because of the super high scammer rate among them. But his guy' got 7700 pos feedback & at $9.00 shipped I think I can take that risk. this time.

I bought several from asian sellers and only had one that was worth anything at all. And surprisingly it was a Duke, which actually writes fairly well for an 8.00 pen. However after writing with gold nibs, I really don't like the feel of anything else. Personal preference I guess.

I hear you on that. I've had dozens of cheapo chinese pens over the years & only a couple stand out as great writers. The Hero 100 was one of them & pretty much any of the ones that use the Parker 45 style nib unit's are decent or better writers.

I still havent gotten this one in yet. I'll do a review when it makes it in sometime late this week or early next.

How did this pen work out.  Just wondering since you kinda expressed some concern about it.

I foegot all about this post. sorry.

Honestly. this pen impressed the Sh** out of me. It was like $9 or so shipped. Got here in under 3 weeks from Hong Kong (iirc) closr to 2. Rock solid SS cap & barrel. Good looking trim, marked Baoer on the cap band. One of the better IPG nibs in a medium/fine. TheONLy problem was the international sized converter. It was REALLY cheap & litterally snapped in 2pieces the first timeI tried to filit. Not a big deal, just dropped in a spare i had here & all waswell.

For all intents & purposes (sp?) this is a parker sonnett. IIRC I think I hear somewhere about these being made on old parker equipment. I could be wrong but it sounds about right.

It was a decent enough pen that i gave it to a friend of mine because he liked it so much. He's fairly knew to pens but has great taste. I fully plan on getting a few of these. Possibly even importing some for resale. Honestly I would have paid $20-25 or so for this if Id seen it in a shop and had a chance to handle it up close.

Just my 2 bits

Sometimes, you can be pleasantly surprised. Nice pen - great gift for a young person just getting into fountain pens.

Agreed. Sometimes these cheapo's will knock your socks off. I still like the Hero 100 in SS. The best $30.00 ish modern pen your going to find IMHO that is. Just wish they made one with a broad nib.

I've emailed the seller to see how many more they have, but havent heard back yet. If I'mable to score some I'll out them up here as a TFPC exclusive.

I have several Chinese pens I rotate around the collection as well.

Duke makes a good pen, Baoer, SOME Hero's & a few Wing sung models are pretty good. Have you gone over to Todd neusbaums (sp) site Isellpens.com? He's the MAN when it comes to pens like these & his prices are spot on, excellent service & a nice guy to boot.

I just checked & under the baoer line he's got the SS Sonnet knock off's for $15. Not bad at all. Honestly, this pen could easily sell all day for 2 times that.

Do your Haolilai's ( fwiw, pronounced How-lee-lie) have 14K nibs?

todd is the man for sure. i had seen the one you got on his site and now he and hisnibs carry the one that looks like a montblanc, skywalker... i believe it's the name!!??

no, my haolilai have steel nibs and gp, but i like them very much, specially the black and chrome one, it's very wet ad smooth. i have that one inked with PR DC supershow blue and it's the wetest thing you can find... some times that can be bad because it bleeds!!!
