Dating a Cross Century BP&MP set
Permalink Closed

Howdy, gang!

I acquired a somewhat battered but (now) functional gold-filled Century set that I'd like to date a bit more closely than I've so far managed. Century ballpoint = post 1953, and the old RCA logo attached to the clip = pre-1968. This set doesn't have "Cross" stamped on it (emblem clip), but has "Century" engraved above the clip in script. I know I've seen or read *somewhere* about when the various imprint styles were used, but I am having no luck in relocating that information. Can anyone help me out?

The set is personalized for a "W. T. Reed" who *might* be the "WT Reed" who co-published with transistor pioneer William Bradford Shockley, but at this point, who knows?

Does it have the instructions with it? That might have a revision date on it that would give you an idea. Other than that, I have never seen the model name in script on any of my Cross pens (1980s-newer). Check the Cross threads on FPN, there was some discussion of the logos on there.

No case or instructions, alas. I've been going through the posts at FPN without success. So far all I have is that fifteen-year window.

Here's a close-up:
