Running on empty: Ero and Reform fountain pens
Permalink Closed

Hi all I recently purchased two older, but beautiful, fountain pens of the 60's vintage,  which write, but run out of juice when writing reasonably fast: I am comparing them to my modern Waterman that writes quiet quickly with a good flow of ink at the same pace.
My questions being, I am wondering if there is old dried up ink clogging up their workings, inhibiting their flow rate?  Or is there a part that needs replacing or restoration kit?  Are these pens worth doing up in the sense of they are nice pens,  or should they be retired?
I know nothing about the inner workings of a fountain pen. In anticipation thanking all kindly.

I did not mention the model of the Ero and Reform but they are both piston fillers from the 60's.

try soaking the sections in ammonia or windex/water mix for a while. about 1:10 ratio seems right.

if not that could be some other issues, but try that first.

Okay slight improvement. What then would your next step be?

I assume, replace the plastic feeding mechanism that also supports the nib?
Which might be difficult in getting replacements for these 1960 pens? Or is there a common part? Or even a better option?

aah. i'd just keep after cleaning them up real good.
what kind of pens? names? pictures?

you probably don't have to replace anything unless it's broken. or if you have a bad sac.
