I've had two of these and have to say that the enamel over metal just gives it a wonderful hand feel.  The goliath refill writes forever and it a smooth line producer.

And if you've never tried the button on a C d'A  give it a go it makes all other BPs feel clunky.

I've been meaning to reply to this for a while. Too long, it looks like. But since I finally have a photo, I'll show off my Caran D'Ache 849 metal office pens here anyways. I use the silver one the most of the three. The refills are super, and my only issue is that the pen body is a tad too small for long periods of writing. The click action is like buttah, and the metal clip certainly looks durable too. Bottom line: They cost around $20, and are a lot of pen for the money!

Another Caran D'Ache 849 I could not resist...

The clip and clicker are gold plated (very thinly, as I can see on my example), otherwise, a typical nice Swiss-made 849 bp. This baby will likely sit unused, as I don't know how the finish will hold up under use. The form-fitted metal case is also gold colored, and uses small magnetic clasps to hold it shut.

BTW - I had to switch image hosting sites, so I've lost my previous images until I repost them.

I've decided to start using my 849 in my regular pen rotation. It's doubtful this will be a collector's item at any time, and it's just too nice to not use every day.
