a love of pocket knives...

There was a time when almost no one, man or woman, boy or girl, went anywhere without a pocket knife. One style was called the "Figural" and featured advertising or pictures. Here are a few examples that may bring back some fond memories of an easier time.

5 Cent coke and the Wolds Fair

S&W

RCMP Miniature

Western Train

Heck yeah!
I remember knives like those and had a few of my own.
Had no idea they were called "Figural", learned another something new today.
I may still have some buried in one of hundreds of boxes still left unpacked, need someone to come by someday and help me dig through them all to see what I have.
Thanks for the pics, and for the memories!

Those are stupendous.

I'm in antique shops all of the time hunting pens and see these on a fairly regular basis. If you collect these I'll start kicking them up for you. The prices are usually quite reasonable. $5-20 or so. Vintage pocket knives aren't really my thing. Go figure, I prefer contemporary knives.Make no mistake I can certainly appreciate the craftsmanship and outright beauty of the piece.

Great pieces man!

My grandmother had a drawer full of these knives; I don't know what became of them when she moved from California to Colorado to Iowa to Colorado again, and I doubt she'd know either anymore. :-/
