Awesome Ebay Waterman Score

I won this the other day from the good folks at Penboard_DE.

The description says it's an early 50's Contineltal overlay in rolled gold w/ a BB nib.

This is only the 3rd one of these I've ever seen. I can't wait to get it in & take it for a ride!

The pics are lifted from the auction & belong to Tom Weisterich (sp?)

Pretty sweet huh...

I like that a whole lot.  I used to have something like that with a 14k gold cap though I can't remember the model name off hand though pictured below.  I sold it off in December of 2006.  A nice pen I could never quite bump into my daily writers.  Let us know how the nib writes.

Beautiful set Pete.

"A nice pen I could never quite bump into my daily writers. Let us know how the nib writes."

Thats the problem I had with the other one I owned. I just couldn't get into it. It had a very flexi EF nib that I just couldn't love. I prefer Broad, stub, italic & flexi nibs (medium or better). I really hope I'm noit building this pen/nib up too much in my mind. That BB nib just looks so chioce.

I'll give a full review when i get it in.

Dennis

Manufacturer: Waterman

Year of production: Late 1940's early 1950's

Country of Origin: USA

Model: Based on the Taperite/Crusader line's

Filling System: Lever Filler

Color: Gold

Material: 14K (not stamped if it's solid or GF) Assume it's GF & hope for the best.

Clarity: N/A

Nib Material & Line Width: Buttery smooth Semi Flex 14K BB LF Oblique. 3:1 line ratio. 6/10 on the wetness scale. Flexes to BBB. To say this is an incredible nib is the understatement of the year! (The left foot oblique cut it a slight one of only 5 or 10 degrees, that anyone will be able to comfortably use.)

Trim Material: 14K

Trim Condition: Excellent. There is one TINY & I mean TINY ding just to the right of the clip just above where the ball would be.

Imprint Condition: Stamped on the cap lip. The Watermans is strong but the globe is weaker.

Engravings/Personalization: N/A

Capped Length: 5 1/8"

Posted Length: 6 1/2"

Outer Diameter Cap: 1/2"

OD Barrel: Just a hair over 7/16"

Working Condition: 100% ready to go.

Overall Grade: 9.5/10

Issues: Just the TINY ding in the cap and on the top edge of the barrel overlay there is a very tiny & stable split. (see the pics & video)

Comments: I have only seen 2 of these in a dozen years of collecting & restoring. Like I said before I hate the "R" word but I'll use it here. This is a rare pen & man oh man what a superb pen it is!

Other Notes: I picked this one up from Tom Weisterich (sp?)/ Penboard.de.

It killed me to do it but bills had to be paid, so it's now living with The Penguin
