Shaeffer snorkel

I just received a shaeffer snorkel all black and looks good. I am haveing trouble filling it though. The snorkel and everything works but when I pull the plunger up, I hear kind of a hissing sound and it doesn't seem like the thing is taking any ink. Any ideas on this? Wes
